How many of you buy Tupperware?

Now, you can say that I am queen of home parties!!! I love them and I've had them all (or atleast many of them) I haven't had a Tupperware party in AGES because everyone I talk to say that they're TOO expensive and they'd probably wouldn't go to my party. Fair enough. So needless to say, I haven't even seen a catalog or even look online to check Tupperware out for quite a few years.

Well, my husband is now asking for little containers to take his mustard/ketchup in for work. That reminded me of those tiny little containers that Tupperware has called Midgets. I then decided to check them out online and browsed around for a bit and I am just FLOORED at how expensive this stuff is. I mean, I know it's excellent quality (I still have my strainer from over 20 yrs ago) but still.

I'm just curious if people out there are still buying this stuff? I'm not sure I would pay some of those prices even though I would have the stuff for such a long time (I like change and find myself replacing stuff even before I need to sometimes, just so I can have something different)

Never. I don't think I've ever been to an actual Tupperware party. I have a few pieces of real Tupperware that I think my mom got for me when I was in college at a party.

I don't get the draw when you could by Rubber Made (Maid?) or any of the gazillion other container products out there at a fraction of the price.

I would never pay full price for it or attend a party. The prices are ridiculous. All the tupperware I have is either hand me down from my mom and grandma, or I purchased it from thrift stores.

I haven't been to a Tupperware party, or any home party, in years. I just don't do them anymore. Someone had a jewelry party not too long ago and I didn't go, but did look through a catalog and couldn't believe the prices!!

I did host a Tupperware party about 30 years ago, and I still have the slow cooker I got from it for having a certain $$ amount of sales.

I just buy Rubbermaid stuff at Wal-Mart now. I think it's just as good as Tupperware, and less expensive.

I prefer tupperware but it is more costly. I could not live with my FrideSmart stuff for veggies they really do work & it has saved me alot of money. My pickle keeper thing & the marinating one. The holiday ones for cookies so much nicer than tins easier to clean. but I haven't been to a party in over 6 years.

A few years ago I bought the rolling mat from tupperware, because someone at work was having a party--yada yada yada. I couldn't believe how cheaply made it was compared to the ones my grandma, and mother had.

I usually just buy rubbermaid, or even some of the other cheaper stuff.

To the OP, rubbermaid has those little tiny containers also. they are the size 0, and are perfect for condiments, salad dressing etc. At least they used to make them. I tried to search for them but couldn't find them. This is the closest I could find

I have several pieces of Tupperware. I have my Mom's old strainer I also purchased their measuring cups. I just couldn't get the feel I wanted from regular price ones. The regular price ones also broke and the sizes wore off all of them.

My Mom had some rubbermaid as well. I particularly like the sandwich size containers. But the lids seem very easy to break, especially for larger size containers and even on the small ones all the pull tabs are broken. I honestly have more luck with cool-whip containers

I bought a few Tupperware pieces in addition to my cool whip containers and that works out nicely for me. I like having a few good pieces I can depend on. My Mom had a few pieces break waaaaay back and they replaced them free of charge

For anyone thats not willing to shell out the big bucks, you can often find bits and pieces and garage sales. I agree with the OP though they are a poor choice for someone who likes to switch out their kitchen stuff. It seems like we've had a few pieces forever.

There are a few Tupperware items I would really like (duplicates of things I've basically worn out), but they are so overpriced and the shipping is so ridiculous, I won't do it. Makes me sad.

My SIL's sister is a Tupperware vice president or something like that. So when we go to SIL's house she has tons of Tupperware.

The coolest thing she has is a pasta cooker deal for the microwave.

I don't care for home parties, but I probably would go to a Tupperware party. I also like Pampered Chef. I guess I like kitchen gadgets.

And anyway, where else are you going to get the 3/4 dry measuring cup? Tupperware is the only place I have seen sell it. Why is that?

There is a HUGE difference between Rubbermaid and Tupperware according to one Tupperware Rep who was at a party I attended in the early 90s. Tupperware is made from products that are 100% safe to the human body, so you can eat it without any harmful side effects at all.

So, if you're going to be eating your plastic, I highly recommend you buy Tupperware. If you're like the majority of us however who have not developed a taste for stuff, I think it's safe if you stick to their largest competitor, Rubbermaid.

If you'd like to get some Tupperware but know it's $$$ maybe contact one of the reps in your area.....should be able to search for one on their site. I did this several years ago to see what kind of special incentives they were offering as there were a few things I wanted. Well, decided to host a party, it wasn't huge or anything but I had 2 other people book parties off my party and I ended up getting to pick out $100 in free product.

Hostess incentives usually vary from month to month.

My mom and my sister both sold Tupperware in the past, and we all love it, but agh, can't afford it Mom still has a couple of the colanders in that "yellow" color, and a couple of bowls too; the coolest thing is no matter how old they are, if they break Tupperware will replace 'em.

Personally, I love the stuff... I have a ton of the closet organizer containers. Modular mates, I think they are called. They tend to have a great sale on them in Jan...like 40-50% off. I stock up then. I now have plenty for myself and my kids (when they move out). I would attend a party, but no one has these, in my area, anymore. In fact, all home parties seem to be going away.

I attended ONE Tupperware party about 15 years ago. I bought a That's a bowl. And I would still have it if my son didn't use it for some dead fish.

I think it is stupid expensive and will not attend the parties. I have a Tupperware manager who lives down the street and has for 13 years, when I need something I just call her.

My DD has microwaves at school so I did purchase a couple of the divided micro dishes last year - they survived an entire school year and are in great shape for the coming year. My DD loves them and they were worth the money. I got the dish on sale for about $10 ea and because it came from the managers stash I didn't pay any shipping.

My entire post was meant to be a joke, but the rep specifically stated, you can eat it with no ill consequences. Even at a young age, I couldn't grasp why she thought that such a strong selling point.

I have a ton of Tupperware and I love it; a few of the items were my parents', so they have lasted many years. The quality is much better than anything else I have bought. I do have plastic containers that are other brands as well---my DH has to use the cheaper ones to take food to work because he has been known to not return them, and Tupperware is too expensive to replace.

I have only been to a couple Tupperware parties in the last 10 years or so--nobody seems to be having them anymore. Right now, I don't plan to buy any more in the near future becasue of the price.

Pampered Chef....I need to break that addiction---they are pricey, too (but also good quality).

I've bought tiny plastic bowls at the grocery store for putting condiments in....they were very inexpensive.

While I also think Tupperware is expensive, I think it is great quality and have everything from the company that I have ever bought.

I have that stack cooker they came out with about 20 years ago and it still looks brand new. I cook my ground beef in that always and it automatically drains as it cooks. It is probably my favorite Tupperware piece.

I haven't been to a Tupperware party in 14 years. I still have everything I ever bought, and it all is still good. I have both That's a Bowl Sr. and Jr. I love them both! I also have a cake carrier which I only use about once a year.
