How many National Parks have you been to?

I've been watching the PBS series on Ken Burn's: National Parks & National Monuments all this week. The show has been quite interesting, although a little slow at times.

It reminded me of the various National Parks I've been to. When I add them up, I'm surprised, I've been to quite a few.

How many National Parks and National Monuments have you been to? (By National Monuments, I mean of the natural/nature kind, not the manmade ones like the Lincoln Memorial or an historical Military fort.)

I know I've been to more, not sure which ones when I travelled when I was younger. As far as the historic monuments go, that would be a ton!

I have a new travel agenda now! Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon are at the top of my list.

We took a 2 month, 6000 mile cross-country camping trip with our kids in 2007. You haven't lived until you spend 60 days together in a 19 foot camper, haha. Let's just say, we became a VERY close family...

I feel like I've only scratched the surface. My dream is to move out to West Yellowstone to spend summers living in my camper, perhaps working in the town or at a campground. Maybe when my DD16 goes off the college we can do just that.

I have been watching tentatively... 2 or 2.5 hour episodes with no commercials to fast forward through... OMG who has time for that 5 days in a row?! I wish it was on once a week for 5 weeks instead, but whatever. We are going to Yellowstone next summer anyway, but what I have seen this week makes me want to visit more parks. I did want to see the Grand Canyon anyway but didn't realize it was one of the parks. So far Yosemite and Sequoia pique my interest the most. How are they different from Yellowstone? Are they all unique? Are they similar at all? I was hesitant to watch because I was afraid this would happen... I may never get back to WDW!

Hidden_Mickey, these parks are nothing like each other. Literally! If you think you will say, "You've seen one mountain range, one valley, you've seen them all." Far from it! People don't go to a National Park to look. If that was all it's about, yes, one could just stay home and look at pictures of it. Each park is a separate and unique experience. In the same way one goes to Disney, for the experience.

I agree with the ranger and the other people on that PBS special who say when you go to a National Park, you realize you have gone home. Each park I've been to has been unique and very different experience from each other, and still I've felt at home in each one, like I've found yet another piece of my soul.

Interesting....my parents took me all over the country, but didn't take me to many National Parks. I've been to a lot more National Monuments or National Battlefields. It looks like they focused more on the historical and less on the natural (and I would guess that's because my mom planned most of our trips.)
