I have never really looked into the Grand Californian because I thought it was probably a little too spendy. On our last trip, we were over by the Brother Bear play area in DCA right next to the Grand Californian. It looked so nice, DH said "I wish we were staying there". We have 3 young kids (8,5, 2 -- but by our next trip our youngest won't be a crib anymore)-- so just wondering -- would we have to get a suite? I am guessing a family of 5 couldn't fit into a standard room? And which view do you like the best? Or do you like the concierge rooms?
We're just back from our trip, but never too early to start planning our next one . . . :goodvibes

We LOVE the Grand Californian! These are the bed configurations that they have for a standard room:
2 queen beds
1 King bed with a sofa sleeper
1 queen bed with bunk beds

You can also add a sleeping bag to these rooms...they provide sleeping bags instead of rollaways. They also provide cribs that are folded up in the closet.

I happen to prefer the pool view rooms but they often run $50-100 more per night depending on season. This is a wonderful resort! Marilyn :thumbsup2

My Dh and I stayed there with our 4 kids. We had the room with the bunk beds and a queen bed.

Underneat the bunk bed, they also had a trundle bed. So you could easily sleep you, your Dh and all of the kids.

You'll be able to fit in a standard room!!

The bunk bed rooms and the 2 queen bed rooms both sleep 5.

The bunk bed rooms have a queen bed, a bunk bed & a trundle that pulls out from under the bed.

The 2 queen bed rooms includes a sofa sleeper.

So the only room that wouldn't accommodate your family would be the King bed room.

We just stayed there this weekend in a bunk bed room and the room fit 2 adults and 3 kids (10,12 & 14) just fine.

Not ALL standard rooms that have two queens include a sofa sleeper. I stayed in one that only had 2 queens. I am assuming if we had five in our room, they would have handed us a sleeping bag.

I agree with DangerMouse. Not all standard w/two queens have the day bed. I had a client come all the way from England during Christmas, and they gave him two queens and a sleeping bag. He wasn't happy.

The queen & bunkbed or 2 queens & day bed combos are great, but there is no guarantee that you will get them when you book at the GC. Just want to make sure you know that.

Still, it's a great hotel!
