Okay so for our trip in the beginning of December we are doing a split stay. First at GF for 4 nights and then switching to AKL for 3 nights. We are paying rack rate for GF because we are in a TPV room. We had AKL booked for a savannah view, but it would have only been a 5% AP discount, so we switched to a pool view room and we are saving $629. My question is how many of you have been upgraded to a savannah view room at AKL after paying for a standard or pool view room?

I hear people get upgraded at AKL pretty often but the pool view rooms are in a good location. At least ours was and I've read on other threads that most people who have stayed in them are happy with them. I have one booked in a couple weeks. I can't wait..have a great trip. A TPV at GF sounds like so much fun. How exciting!

In January 2010, we booked a standard view and were upgraded to savanna view; however, in December 2010, we booked pool view and that's what we received. I do agree with the pp that the pool views are in a great location and we loved that view just as much as the savanna view. I wouldn't hesitate to book a pool view again as it was very convenient to get to the pool and Mara, as well as to the lobby and gift shop :goodvibes.

I like the idea of a pool view at AKL, but I really wanna be close to the animals. But I cant see spending $629 more for it when were already paying for a wedding and honeymoon at Disney. That is good to know that people like them. Hey if you want to take pics of your view when you go and email them to me - Id love to see them!!!

I hope you have a great trip! Yeah we def are EXCITED for our trip in December!!

Good to know pool view is a nice location... and I LOVE their gift shop!! :)

Stayed at AKL about 9 years ago. Booked standard view and got upgraded to Savannah view at no charge. It was late August. My parents and sister and brother (3 rooms booked) 8 years ago booked standard view and got a free upgrade to Savannah view. Also a late August trip. Don't know if I'd risk the possibility of not getting a Savannah view if you really want it and would feel really disappointed if you didn't get it, though. If you decide to book standard view and risk it (like we did) I'l keep my fingers crossed for you!

We were upgraded from a standard view to a pool view during our first stay. I would book a pool view room now, Zebra trail. Our room was close to the lobby, pool and Mara. Some rooms at the end of the hallway are a long walk, so pool view works for me. I think the AKL pool view at night is spectacular and liked it more than my DM's Savannah view at night.

Yes,I can take some pics and email them to you or post them on here. I will also see if I can find any pictures from when we had the pool view last year.

Have you ever stayed at the AKL ? If not then you won't have anything to compare it to~ view wise.

We have stayed at AKL 4 times~ next time next May; last time last Sept.
All but 1 time we had a SV~ that 1 time our 2nd time there we had a pool view; I was sooo dissapointed.

It was a nice view~ it really was; but nothing compared to Savannah view.

JMHO

We were upgraded from standard to savannah in 2009...on spring break...and on the buy 4 get 3 deal. That was the best bargain trip ever!:cool2:

We stayed there on our honeymoon, and weren't upgraded.

I assume it's because it was for a 9 night stay that overlapped marathon weekend (I got online and checked availability a few days before). Most of the time the hotel was completely empty, but it was much busier during the marathon.

I did really enjoy our pool view, but if I ever stay at AKL again I'll probably want the savanna view.
As the PP said, if you've never stayed in a savanna view at AKL before, you probably will love the pool view.

On my last trip to WDW (March 2009), we stayed at AKL. We booked through Expedia, as they were offering a special, likely due to the Kidani construction. We paid for a standard room and got a savannah-view room... and we loved it. Another family member traveling with me loved sitting out on the porch and watching the giraffes while having her morning coffee before heading out to the parks. I've stayed in dozens of hotels, including two AAA 5-diamond winners, but AKL is one of the top three hotels that I've ever stayed in because of the amazing atmosphere and views.

That said, we're headed back to WDW in a few weeks, but we will be staying at All-Star Movies due to budget constraints of some in the group (two friends are coming along). One thing that I have learned from my past four trips to WDW is to stay on-site if you can, and even though ASMo isn't AKL, it is still 100% Disney.

Nope, never been upgraded at AKL. Still, a Savannah view is nice, but just staying at AKL is all I really need!!!

We were upgraded on our first stay there - we had booked a standard view at a $109/night AP rate and were upgraded to Deluxe Savannah. It paid off for Disney, as we purchased DVC at AKL later on.

Gosh, I remember back in the day when AKL had 2 options - savannah or non-savannah!!!

Back in those days, bunk beds were a request and were often granted and a savannah upgrade was almost a given during non-peak visits!!

And you saw millions of animals from all of the public viewing areas.

That being said - I'm hoping and hoping for a soft-refurb at AKL soon -so then I'll be there in the blink of an eye and I don't care what view I have.

There is not a more 'take me away' resort in all of WDW. And if I could only find a bartender at the AKL pool bar that still knew how to make a Blue Nile I'd never leave (we have a very high stack of souvenir glasses from way back when (and when AKL first opened there was no up-charge for them))

My friend and I got bumped from a standard to a savannah for free on our trip in '10. Granted, the upgraded room was probably the FURTHEST room you could imagine getting (very LAST room on Zebra trail - maybe they have it classified as partial view?).

But it was worth it, as we always had animals at our balcony since it was right at the feeding & holding pens.

When we stayed there in December paid for the standard room and were upgraded to the Savannah view when we checked in.

Thank you for all of your answers!!! Okay well its good to know that the pool view is good too. We actually stayed there for a night back last August when we got engaged, but it was so whirlwind that I didnt get to watch the animals much since we were at MK for EMH and then the next morning we woke up early and went to AK.

I just cant see paying over $600 more to be guaranteed that view. We are actually staying at GF for 4 ngihts before we move over to AKL for 3 nights, at GF we are paying for a TPV room... that was our splurge. So we will just hope for some pixie dust :wizard: and some Mickey magic :mickeyjum and hope that we get an upgraded room. But if it doesnt happen, I will be happy for my room before it at GF to be able to see the castle and Im just happy to be at Disney resort :) and to be getting married at the most magical place!!! Plus I know there are different viewing areas to see the animals. Im getting soooooo excited! Its 99 days today!!!:yay:

I have a pool view room booked. Thinking it will be easier with the kids and more to look at than a standard. But I def wouldnt complain if I got a upgrade :)
But I have read alot more of people getting upgrades from a standard booking than a pool.
Either way...I am super happy to be stayign there :)
