I am the DH/DD in a family of 5 (DW, DS7, DD5, DD3). We are considering DVC membership but according to what I see in the literature, we would have to book a 2BR villa since we would need accomidations for 5. We stayed at OKW in May 2005 in a 1 BR villa and there is certainly room for 3 small kids and 2 adults.
What is the policy? I don't really care about bedding... We could bring an air mattress etc for 1 of the kids.
It just seems absurd to have to spend so much extra (100+ points) to have a 2BR when I am allowed to have 5 people in some of the standard rooms in the moderate/deluxe resorts. And I really don't want to go sneaking around and book 4 in the room and have to do everything (park tix, dining, reservations, etc) for one of us under the radar.
If I could have 3 kids and 2 adults in a 1 BR villa, then joining DVC would be a no brainer.

Member Services is currently allowing 5 people in a one bedroom unit. You will need to provide your own air mattress or cot and bedding. You will have 4 towels, additional towel packs of 4 are available from housekeeping for $6, and you have the washer/dryer so you'll always have fresh towels.

The only thing I would add is to consider whether your 3 teenagers (including 2 girls) will remain comfortable in a 1BR 10 years from now.

As Chuck said, you can have up to 5 in a 1 br but no bedding will be provided.
IMO, if you are going to do this, OKW is the best choice. The OKW's 1 br LR/DR/Kitchen and laundry room are bigger than the other WDW, DVC resorts. You could easily fit inflatable beds in the OKW 1 br. The other DVC resorts at WDW, it would be do-able; but more crowded.

Officially, only four persons are allowed in a one bedroom. But Disney has pretty much always allowed an additional child under the age of three to stay and not count towards occupancy. In the last few months, Member Services has been allowing five in a one bedroom with no additional bedding or linens.

That could change at any time and DVC could go back to the four persons rule. You really should base your purchase on points required for a two bedroom villa. Or two studios (with no guarantee that they would be close to each other).

Don't get me wrong folks. I don't plan on maintaining a 1BR accomodation as my kids get older. I plan on adding on at a later date. Just want to be reasonable with the original purchase if I decide on joining.

Since the OP's question has been answered, I would like to invite you to visit our Occupancy Thread for further discussion.
