We're going to Aulani this September but we don't quite know how long for yet. We will be spending 6 days in Hawaii. We were thinking of either staying the entire time at Aulani or breaking it up with 4 days at Aulani and two in Honolulu.

Researching these boards suggests there's not a lot to do at the resort itself. I go crazy on sea days on Disney Cruise Line because there's just not enough to do (in the mornings). However, I do love to grab a cocktail and look at sunsets in the evenings. I had thought about using Aulani as a base to go exploring but it's possibly too far. We aren't hiring a car.

We're two adults/no kids but have a very large Disney passion.

How long should I realistically look at staying at Aulani? Thoughts?

If you think there's not enough to do on he cruise lines you'll find the same thing here...it's mostly pools and the beach. It's very limited in terms of activities and after 8pm the resort pretty muc dies out.

I would do two/three days to test it out :)

What many people do is spend one or two nights in Waikiki/Honolulu and then move on to Aulani. Sometimes to get a taste of the nightlife, sometimes to save a bit of money. sometimes just to experience the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. My teenagers LOVE Waikiki and have talked us into two nights at the beginning of our August trip. You have a huge selection of places to eat, bars and even nightclubs in Honolulu but it is also crowded, noisy and really a lot like any other major city in the world. What you might find is a split stay with Waikiki at the front will allow you to see some of the city and then if you prefer, you can always drive back in for an evening or two from Aulani. The other thing to remember is that the new Four Seasons will be opening by the time you go, as well as a Longhis at the Marriott Ko Olina Beach Club and they may have some offerings as far as nightlife goes.
