How many camera cards do you have?

I just got the 1GB Sandisk Ultra II card when I purchased my camera. I also have the 32mb (which ain't much) that came with it.

Should I get another 1GB or 512mb? I was thinking at least one more for a backup.

How many cards do you take with you on trips? What GB/MB are they?

My camera came with a 64 meg (3.2mp Canon). Since then I've added a 256mb, and two 1gb cards. Between the four cards (and only limited by 3.2mp and low compression settings) I should be able to shoot well over 2000 images before filling my cards. Since I probably wont shoot 200 pics per day, I feel pretty safe.

I have six cards, all 1 gig.

One blue SanDisk.
Three SanDisk Ultra II
Two Sandisk Extreme III

I take my photo's at the largest size and highest resolution my camera (D-70) allows and get 281 photo's shot in .jpg on each card. 89 shot in RAW.

I carry 5 gig of memory cards,

a 4 gig Hitachi microdrive

and a 1 gig lexar 40x

plus a 30 gig Delkin picture pad, that I can copy my cards onto at any time

I'm looking to buy at least 2 more 1 gig cards...

:rotfl2: I remember when a 32mb card was huge :lmao:
Now a 32mb card will on hold about 10 pics for me :guilty:
currently I have 7 CF cards
1 4GB Ultra II
1 2GB Sandisk
3 512 kingstons
2 256 simpletech

I am trying to build up enough card to not have to carry me laptop with me on vacation. On the average WDW vacation I will shot about 1500 pics, so I think I have about the right amount of card currently.

It really depends on the Camera and file size that it produces.

For me shooting RAW, my camera puts out an image with a 9-10mb sized file. For that I never really use anything with less than 2gb. I shoot lots of bursts and a 1gb card would require too much swapping for my tastes.

What kind of shooting do you do? How many pics do you average in a day? How big are the files your camera produces?

You're getting a lot of different answers because there are a lot of different shooting habits.

I shoot mostly at WDW. I have my camera set in Medium-Fine mode, which produces files of 1.5-2mb, and I average fewer than 100 shots per day at WDW.

I have 2 PNY CF cards f 512mb each. Each card would fit upwards of 250 pics, more than enough for one whole day of shooting at WDW, with enough extra space to switch my resolution up to maximum if I so choose. Since I travel with a laptop, I have no need to have more than 1 day's worth of storage space, plus a backup. And I like my backup to be the same size and type as my primary, so that I will not have to worry about running out of space if I switch to the backup.

My camera is the Canon A620.

I just do some normal everyday picture shooting for family vacations, school outings, etc... Haven't been to disney since 2003 so I don't remember exactly how many I took in one day before.

My camera can be set to Large, M1, M2 or M3 and then superfine, fine, and normal.

I haven't really figured out which setting is good enough for me. I am taking a picture in the house of a single object, using the different settings and comparing them. Guess I'll see how that turns out. I'm printing them off right now.

* Also, what is the difference in the Sandisk Ultra II and Extreme III? I have the ultra (from circuit city) but found an extreme for the same price (at another site). I might invest in this if it's worth it...or just get another ultra.

No matter how many cards or what their capacity you will never have enough. I started with 4 - 512MB cards and found that I was swapping too much so I replaced them with 4 - 1 GB cards but now I am starting to shoot more RAW than JPG so they are not big enough so I am replacing them with 4 - 2 GB (4 GB cards are still a little rich for my blood). I have a feeling though when my Nikon D200 finally arrives (been backordered for 3 weeks), I am going to be wishing I had either more cards or higher density. The great thing about it is that all of my cameras use Compact Flash so as I outgrow the cards my wife and kids get massive storage bumps for their cameras.

I normally just take the card that is in the camera. No backups.

I also haven't been on a vacation longer than a couple of days since we moved into our new house in 2002. (Buying a bigger house in a nicer area kind of took away our vacation budget :goodvibes ) My trip this month will be the first time I do not take a film camera also, but I am taking two digital cameras.

I will have three cards total with me -- the 1GB in my 8.1 MP Coolpix 8700, the 256 MB in my Powershot S10, and either a 128 MB or a 64 MB backup in my purse.

Conveniently, my Nikon, my Canon, and my mom's Canon (she will be with us) all use CF cards. My mom is not computer savvy, so I generally swap the 128 MB and 64 MB cards with her, download her pics, and then swap them back when her card gets full again. :teeth:

I would like to get a 512MB for backup, but the one time I filled up my 1GB, it had over 300 pictures in FINE mode (second only to RAW in data size), and I can't imagine taking that many pictures in a day, even at WDW. (We will have our laptop with us -- I will be able to empty the card as needed.) I just always have this worry about cards failing, even though I have had that 64 MB since I bought my first digital camera in 1999.

Understand about the cards failing. I had that happen while in Disney with my other camera. I had a 512mb card and a 126mb. The 512 failed within an hour while in Animal Kingdom and I accidently left the other card at the house we were renting. I had to buy a stupid disposable. Good thing is that I was able to go to Walmart that night and buy a new card.

Now I might get 3 cards just as a precausion and REMEMBER to bring them!

Is RAW for movies??? Guess I'm camera illeterate.

if you want to transfer them to CD, 512 Mb will be more ideal. Around 500 Mb is the "safe data area" for a 650 Mb-700 Mb CD-R. Also it eliminates the need for file-spanning between CDs.

I personally use 6 512 Mb Ultra II cards and 1 2 Gb Extreme III card (I was forced to buy this one since one of my card went down the gutter and I don't have any card left during a location shoot)

For me personnaly i own about 10GB in CF cards and 5GB in SD cards. For the average vacation i will take my 1dmkii or my 5d and i will take 3 2GB CF cards. I will also take my canon S80 with 2-3 GB in SD cards. I find that will hold a good number of images however i also always take my laptop with me to download and view images while im on vacation.

We're going to WDW later this month and I'll be bringing two 512 MB cards and a 128 MB. I also have a 64 MB which I keep in our camcorder. We have a lot of pictures from previous trips to WDW so this should be more than sufficient since I don't take as many pictures at WDW as I used to.

I carry (4) 1 GB cards and (1) 2GB CF Cards. Majority are SanDisk Ultra II with one being a Kingston Elite Pro. I am shooting with Canon 20D (8+ meg) and just returned from WDW with less than 1 GB free (fit just over 1,200 pictures on my cards).

BTW, my first Canon digital (an S-20) came with an 8 MB card, which even back then was not overly generous. :rotfl2: I think I paid well over $100 from my first 'large' 48 MB card.

i have maybe a dozen cards between me and my SO. biggest is half gig for a 7 MP camera i get maybe 100 pics on that or so? the rest are decreasingly smaller for a total of maybe 1.75 gigs.

next time i will have a laptop and i will burn CDs of my pics because i was sweating fierce about those little memory chips getting ruined. no different than film i guess but being a computer geek ive learned long ago not to trust computers or anythign they touch. or for that matter airport security.

That's me. I just returned from my first visit to DL (we're WDW people) and I took over 1200 pictures. This is typical for my WDW and DCL trips.

I have two 1GB, four 512MB and four 256MB CF cards.

I want a 4GB card and almost bought an old iPOD last year to take that 4GB card out of it but I was chicken. Now that the price has gone down a bit I might do it.

Ipod minis use Microdrives not Compact flash. Right now Outpost.com has a SEAGATE Microdrive for $69, NO REBATES involved.

We Luv Disney, Oh my Goodness!!! Your photos are breath taking!!! Are you a photogropher by trade?

Wow, everyone has a lot of cards.

Like I said for my last trip in 2003, I only had a 512 and a 128mb compact flash card. I even stayed for 2 weeks but also brought my laptop with me and I kept a total of 500 pictures.

This 1gb SD card is the highest I ever had. My next trip won't be till 2008 and I'm hoping that I won't have to bring the laptop with me. I'm going to try and be a good girl and leave it at home.

Guess I might be investing in more 1gb cards. 2 gb would be nice but then if it fails, it's such a waste of $. With the dell website, you can get (2) 1gb cards for the same price as a 2gb. At least this would give me 2 cards incase of a failure (instead of 1).
