We are going March 5 - 14 flying from Detroit. So far airfares are $300 or over. I'm hoping to pay $250 or less. How long would you wait before just giving up and paying the higher price?
That is a tough question. Yesterday most of the larger airlines (not sure about SWA) raised their fares about $16.00. So the trend does not look favorable for getting a bargain airfare.
I would suggest you choose a date for making your decision and stick to it, because waiting too long may cause you to scramble for a seat. Use the available web tools (Fare Cast (now Bing), Yapta and Airfare Watchdog) to track the fares. Sign up for airfare e-mails so you get a heads-up when "sales" are occurring. Check the attached article for more information; Jet Blue announces its upcoming fare sales on Twitter.
Wow, you are my traveling buddy! Are you staying at port orleans too? I am leaving the march 5-march 14 from detroit! I bought my tickets a month and a half ago from hotwire for 239.00 PP with all fees. I just checked and now they are 369.00pp! My TA told me before that was a killer deal b/c it is springbreak so I jumped on it. I would suggest buying them soon before they go up higher. I know flying out of Toledo is way more expensive than Detroit. What about checking out Clevaland! Though you would have to drive a couple of hours but it might be worth it to fly out their. Or maybe can you change your date by one day. You can do this at hotwire
