We were at Epcot on Thursday. We didn't get there until about 6 pm because we'd been at Typhoon Lagoon for the afternoon. Headed straight to Soarin' where all Fast Passes were naturally gone and the wait was 140 minutes! We left to enjoy other parts of Epcot and around 8.30 noticed the crowds of people streaming to get a spot for Illuminations, so we decided to see what it looked like at Soarin'. Since the park closes at 9 pm, we thought it might be worth a chance to see if we could still get in if everyone else was headed to Illuminations.
The standby line said 70 minutes wait, but the CM asked us how many were in our party (2). She then handed us a Fast Pass and sent us into the FP line!!! So we got in to see Soarin' in about 10 minutes. We were thrilled for the pixie dust that got sprinkled on us that night. When we exited, we caught the high fireworks from Illuminations, so it was quite magical.
I was wondering what happens to people who are in a long queue when the park closes. There were hundreds of people in the standby line when we went through, only 20 minutes left to closing time and the standby line said the wait was 70 minutes. Do they allow all those who were in the queue to ride even if it's after closing time? It was 9.10 pm when we exited Soarin' and they had a lot of people waiting when we boarded.
