How long of a drive from WDW to Vero?

From WDW to VB is 114 miles(1 hr 50 minutes). In July there was no construction and it is a pretty easy drive. From the airport(MCO) to VB it is 96 miles.

We drive 192 to Vero. Just did this in August. My uncle lives 5 minutes from the Vero Beach resort. We drove it there in 1 hr 40 min and on the way back made it in 1 hr 35 min. I was specifically timing ourselves. Taking 192 is sort of the scenic route---not much traffic once you get through the business district around Kisssimmee. Can't say we saw anything too interesting on our drive (mostly farm and marshland), but we did spot a gator on the side of the road !

We have always taken the directions from the DVC site and that is always the way they print it on the confirmation for your reservation. Here it is below........


Take I-4 East to Beeline (528) toll road.

Take the Beeline (528) toll road east to I-95 South.

Follow I-95 South to 512 East -exit 69(New:156) Sebastian/Fellsmere.

Turn left/east on 512 to US 1 (6.5 miles).

Turn right/south on US 1 to 510 (4.5 miles).

Turn left/east on 510 to A-1-A (2.5 miles).

Turn right on A-1-A.

The Resort is immediately on the left.

I agree with Nick about following the DVC directions, especially if you are leaving from the airport. But, it is also possible to get there by taking Florida's Turnpike which is near WDW. I haven't got the specific directions but basically you take FL Turnpike until the State Road 60 Exit. This will take you into Vero Beach and then you just need to work your way over to A1A and up to the Disney Resort. This is a bit of a time saver as long as it's a nice day. SR-60 is a 2 lane road through ranch/citrus land traveled by trucks and can get hairy in a thunderstorm.

In either case, there is not much after you leave Orlando and before you reach Vero unless you go off the highway. So, take those potty breaks and grab something to eat before you leave.

I only mentioned the 192 East way because the OP said she was coming from WDW. I agree the Beeline would be the easiest from the airport. But 192 EAST all the way until I-95 (Sebastian exit) is a nice, quick & scenic alternative. We're usually one of only a few cars on 192 once we make it through the business district and the speed limit is pretty high as I recall. It's the only way my uncle who lives in Sebastian will use. We use it every time and have never had a problem---thus the quick time we can make it there. But if you don't feel comfortable with this way, then I'd suggest Nick and Pam's way.

As some of you know I use to live in vero and go to orland all the time. The quickest way is to take the beeline over to I-95 south. Not as congested with all those red lights!! You can take 192 over but the the last 10/15 years it is major traffic with a lot of new things built!! Use to be all woods, can't say that anymore!! The drive and be 1 to 2 hours depending on route and traffic, my best advice go beeline to I-95.

Mia, I'm glad you gave the I92 directions! I partially went this way on a return trip and am glad to have the directions for the future. Especially in bad weather it would be nice to be able to stop along the way.

Debbie.....are you referring to the business district of Kissimmee ? If so, yes there is traffic there but that's only about 1/4 of the ride. Actually, once you get thru the business district it's really all straight driving with barely any cars on the road. We've used this route 4x in the past 4-5 years and make it to Vero in about 1 hr 40 min. I think that's pretty good. We consider it a scenic route because of the farms, roadside fruit and veggie stands (and occassional gator !) etc. We usually have the road to ourselves most of the way until we hit I-95 of course. My uncle has lived in Sebastian for 15 years now---he swears by it. He has also used this way to come visit us in our DVC villa and off-site timeshare.

You're welcome Pam. I just figured it's always nice to be aware of an alternate route, even if you don't ever use it, just in case. Can't hurt. I think most people would feel more secure with the Beeline particularily if they're not used to driving to Vero from a WDW resort because it's familiar to them and a common route. I drive over to see my uncle just about every time I'm in WDW so we're comfortable and happy with the 192 way. But I can understand how others might not be.

Yes, I am refering to that route. I grew up in Vero beach. We still go the Beeline to 95 - I guess moving to atlanta has changed me!!!

I too am glad to see the I92 directions as we have wondered about that route. Last trip we drove to St Cloud just to see what things looked like out side a ways. It was quite touristy for quite a ways, if fact right to St Cloud. Then we took a side road and followed it a ways then came out near Old Town. It's nice to see some of the real Florida. So if we take I92 all the way it goes to Sebastian, then what? Do we get on I95 to VB? We are actually thinking WDW then Vero this fall so this info is great. I have heard good things about Sebastian that it is a good place to live. Thanks for the info.

It's 192 east all the way to I-95 south. Get off the Sebastian exit on I-95 and you can get to Vero from there. But that's the way I go because my uncle lives in Sebastian. I know we drive to Disney's Vero when we visit him and it's about 8 min from his house. I could be very happy living in Sebastian one day !

You can also take 192 all the way to US1 for a scenic route. Us1 south to the 510 bridge(left) to A1A make a right(south) resort on the right. us1 for Melbourne to Vero goes right next to the river in some areas. We use to make this drive a lot going shopping. Because we never had a great mall there until the last 10 years!!

Just wanted to give an update....we drove from MCO to Vero Beach (1/19/04) using 528 to 95. A fine trip no problems, traffic not bad at our drive time of 1:00pm.

The trip back I decided to try the 192 route back from Vero to WDW. In theory it looked like a more direct route and seeing as there had been discussions here about it I decided to test the trip.

The trip took over two hours as the road is being changed from 4 lanes to 6 lanes! We stopped many times to let the highway crew move big payloaders across the roads. There was an article in the Orlando paper on 1/25 with a headline that read "Drivers to go nowhere fast" "Widening of U.S. 192 promises to snarl traffic." And it does! The paper states that the work will be on going until the Summer of 2006.

So if you decide to take the 192 when coming to Disney from Vero you will need to factor in the extra time it will take to get past the work. For anyone who knows the area it starts at Hoagland Blvd. to the route 535 turn off.

We've taken both the I-95 route (that takes you past the Ron Jon surf shop) and the Florida turnpike/Route 160 route (that takes you through Yeehaw Junction). Both routes are nearly equal in distance (108 miles). I seem to remember it taking about 2 hours regardless of which direction we went. We were staying at Old Key West at the time and a DVC CM suggested that we take the Florida Turnpike route during the day due to the congestion on I-95. It was well worth the trip. We nearly ended up buying points at Vero as a result of our day trip to visit friends that were staying at the resort. I guess you could say that we did the ultimate "pool hop".
