How long is the wait for the DTD Monorail in the middle of the day?

We will arrive, check in to our hotel, and then head to Earl of Sandwich for lunch. We were thinking of taking the Monorail into the park. Is there usually a long wait midday?

Not in my experience, but they do close down if it gets too hot in the afternoon, which happened during our last trip at the end of April.

Also, on less busy days they only run one train so it can be as long as 15 minutes between arrivals. When it's busier, they'll run two and the wait time is less, obviously.

I would allow up to 30 minutes. As others have said, if they're only running one train and not enough folks get off at the DTD station, you may have to wait for more than one monorail (I've had to do this when the line wasn't long in DTD, but only ~15 people got off the monorail, so we had to wait for the next monorail to arrive). In general, I've found that it's faster to walk from Earl of Sandwich to the park entrance, but the monorail can be a fun thing to do.

In the middle of the day you should be fine, it's rush hours that you might have some trouble, i.e. opening, and towards the end of the day when the shows in Disneyland are about to happen.

In my experience, it is pretty rare that getting on the monorail at DTD is better than walking to the gates. Even a short-ish line can still mean waiting for 2-3 trains before you can get on, because the trains arrive full and most people do not get off.

After multiple bad experiences, we only get on the monorail at DTD if we are specifically trying to skip past crowds on Main Street waiting for a parade.
