I've read that it's an hour, but is that realistic with traffic? :confused3 I'd be traveling in the evening after a day at Legoland.

Also, what is the best (i.e. fastest with least traffic) route to DL?

Thanks!

It will depend on what time and what day. After 7 pm on most nights (not Friday), it'll be about 75-90 minutes unless there's a major accident along the way. From 4-7pm or on Friday add 45-60 minutes. Those times are for a move with the flow speed, you can probably cut off 15-20 minutes by pushing it. The best route is to take Highway 5 south.

Here is my advice. Eat dinner in Carlsbad at Claim Jumper or California Pizza Kitchen on the west side of the Freeway near Legoland. The drive from Carlsbad to the 55 Freeway offramp in Newport Beach is easy later in the evening. The most traffic will be in Tustin, Santa Ana and Anaheim. I avoid peak traffic times and almost always get to Disneyland within 65 minutes.

We drove in on a Saturday Morning to try and catch opening. We expected that hour drive that Mapquest said it would take and it was more like an hour and 30 minutes. Now we did have to make a stop at a rest stop during the trip and the rest stop was incredibly busy so that added at least 10 minutes to our drive.

As for going back the park was open until 8pm with a fireworks show at 8pm so we stayed for that and left the park at about 8:30. It was about an hour and 10 minutes going home as traffic wasn't too bad.
