We've always done a towncar but considering DME for some cost savings. How long until your luggage is delivered on average? I know to pack a carryon w/ essentials we may need right away.

Thanks!

The DME packet will tell you to expect your luggage, in your room, up to 4 hrs after resort checkin. The vast majority of the time it takes less than 3 hrs, but if you prepare for 4, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

If you are arriving late like we did at 9pm, expect 4 hours at least. Ours arrived at 1:30am. We could have asked bell services to hold until a later time, but just waited. Next flight down will be in the morning.

Just a side-note...if you arrive after 10pm, DME has stopped handling baggage. You will have to get it yourself or wait until the next day to get your bags.

We've had mixed experiences... this may just be random but to me it seems like we waited less at higher end resorts and longer at value. For example, Pop Century was 5 hours and Saratoga Springs was 2 1/2.

If you are arriving before noon or early afternoon and can pack everything you will need for the afternoon then it wouldn't matter as much unless you are like me and don't feel settled until everything is unpacked.

BTW you can still take the Magic Express and get your own luggage from baggage claim. The bus driving will just put your luggage in the storage area under the bus.

Pop Century has, without a doubt, the worst luggage delivery system on site. I usually have gone off to a park after checking in, rather than wait for my checked bags to arrive, so I don't have a ton of firsthand knowledge. But, the times that I have been in my room (especially if I had to wait for the room to be ready), I did get my bags in a very timely fashion. It was usually less than 3 hrs after I checked in.
BUT....at Pop, I checked in at 11:30. And to those of you who have repeatedly heard the story I apologize. But it bears repeating. I was traveling with my dd, 34. I had told her to pack her carryon with anything she would need to start her stay at WDW...her first ever trip there. She argued with me, and packed the way she wanted to. Rather than put a change of clothes in her carryon, she put about 8 pr of shoes in there since they took up too much room in her 'two' checked bags...two checked bags people!!! Anyway...we checked in at 11:30 and got into our room right away. Now, I wanted to head to a park for a few hours. But no....dd wanted to shower and change her clothes. She wanted to be refreshed after flying. Ah,okay. My ds and his wife were heading over later that day to meet up with us and have dinner. They live in Tampa and were arriving around 6ish.

Well.....rather than go to a park, we ambled around the resort, grabbed a bite to eat in the food court, relaxed in the room. I got more and more annoyed. Our checked bags finally arrived in our room at about 5:30!! I had made about 3 calls over to Luggage Assistence to see where they were..starting at 2:00. Kept being told they weren't there yet. Every time I called, that's what I was told. I find it hard to believe that. It seems that Pop delivers luggage at certain set times...they do not deliver them every half hour or such....pretty much when they get too much to store.

If going to Pop, be sure to have every single thing you will need for that day in your carryon bags. You will not get your checked bags in a timely fashion.
