hi all-
We are planning our first Disney vacation with our 4YO and 1YO in Jan. We'd like to eat at Chef Mickey's for breakfast one morning, but wondering what time we need to make a reservation and still be able to make rope drop at MK. Or should we not even try to make rope drop on the morning we eat at Chef Mickey's? If it's too early I worry I might wear my kids out!! thanks!

Oh, absolutely no need to worry about rope drop in January. :thumbsup2 Chef Mickey's takes about an hour/hour and a half, plus more time for transportation.

If I were you, I'd make reservations for Chef Mickey's at whatever time you guys usually eat. FastPass+ will very likely be in full effect by then, so you can use FP+ in advance to get a few FastPasses set up for after breakfast, and you won't need to worry about getting to MK early to get FastPasses. After breakfast, hop right on the monorail and head over to MK, easy!

January is one of the slowest months in Disney, so I really don't think you'll need to be worried about long lines or crowds. You might want to check when morning Extra Magic Hours for MK are, and plan your breakfast for a day that doesn't have EMH, so you'll have the slowest potential crowds possible. But even if you went on an EMH morning, crowds will still be much more manageable compared to summer crowds.

Enjoy it! You'll love Chef Mickey's!
