How long for bags to resort with Magical Express?

I have two friends who came back from trips in the last two weeks. Both said it took around 5 hours for their bags to show up at their resorts. One had to call down and actually go and get the bags herself when they finally showed up at the resort. Have others been having this experience? My understanding was that the bags should arrive within 3 hours.

When we used MK the first time, our bags arrived within 2 hours and were in our room when we returned from our day in the park. The next time it was within 3 hours, again, the bags were there when we returned from dinner. In January, we checked in at 10:30 am got into the room around 4 pm, no bags went to dinner and returned around 6 pm no bags, called the desk, and was told they would be right there-7 pm still no bags-I went to the bellman, told him I needed the bags and loaded them on a cart-took the cart across the street and THEN we had our bags. I think it was a one time fluke.

For our trip earlier this month, the bags were delivered about 3 hours after we checked in - and that was without the DME tags.

Our's arrived about an hour after we checked in, so I'd say about 2 - 2 1/2 hours from the airport. Not bad at all.

We arrived late at night (10 pm-ish) - got to our resort around 11:20 - Bags didn't arrive until the next morning!!! I called the front desk around 12:00, and they said it might be awhile longer...I called at 1:00 am and was told that they were short handed and couldn't deliver the bags - but that I could go get them. As I was travelling alone with my DS (4), who was fast asleep - I couldn't exactly trot off to the front desk to get my bags. I was told at the airport that the bags would arrive within a couple hours - but that I could always go and get them from the baggage carousel myself ---I wish I would have - then I would have had my jammies the first night!

We had ours by the time we got back to the room after visiting MK for a few hours. Maybe 3? Knowing we weren't suppose to have our bags right away we packed what we needed right away in the carry-ons.

If I was landing in Tulsa or Minneapolis or Las Vegas around 10:00 p.m. I'd make sure to have my PJs and toiletries and clothes for the next morning packed in a carry-on bag with me just in case the AIRLINE delayed my luggage. I do no differently with WDW and DME. I can't imagine flying unprepared.

Go into using DME assuming your luggage will take 5 or 6 hours after you land (it really shouldn't take that long!), pack in your carry-ons accordingly, and you'll have a great time.

Packing for 24 hours takes up surprisingly little space. Check it out for yourself. I do it anytime I fly ANYWHERE.

I left for WDW on May 8, the 4th day DME was in operation. We were prepared for the worst. My luggage "magically appeared" in my room about 4.5 hours after our plane landed, about 3 hours after we checked in (MIL-related delay at the airport, 53 minutes from DME counter to CBR, and then time in line waiting to check in). When my luggage arrived, my wife and I were in the Trinidad North pool with our 2 pre-schoolers enjoying the start of our vacation. We were able to do this because we were ready for the luggage lag. For each of the four of us, we packed PJs, toiletries, "beach shoes," swimsuits, change of clothes for night time (just in case of spills, etc.) and a complete change of clothes for the next day. We also brought in our carry-ons a nebulizer and Xopenex, as well as diapers (for our 2 year old), snacks, and the kids' favorite bedtime buddies. We don't have huge carry-ons, we just pack efficiently and, like I said, it truly doesn't take up as much room as it sounds like it would.

ENJOY YOUR TRIP!

I agree that you should always pack all the essentials in your carry-on and assume your bags could be lost. I've had it happen to me more than once, but I'm hoping it doesn't take quite as long as it did for my friends. It will be cutting it close to my DS' bedtime if it takes that long and I'd obviously prefer to have our stuff there by then.

Thanks for the info everyone.

There was an article on AOL's welcome screen within the last week - airlines 'misdirect' (my pc term for 'lose') 10,000 pieces of luggage a DAY.
That's more than the entire number of Guests who use DME in a given day.

3 hours to arrive in our room on 2-11-06. But keep in mind if you go during a busy time like Spring break or a holiday your delivery time might be longer.
