How long does the purchase process take?

We have just returned from our annual trip to WDW. Every year we say it silly for us not to purchase into the DVC. With the addition of the AKV (our favorite hotel) it seems the time is now for us to purchase. We travel in July every year so we are very close to the 11 month booking time. How long does the purchase process take once the ball get's rolling? I would like to be able to book our next trip as close to the 11 months as possible.
We may use Disney's financing. How long does that take to go through?
Is there financing as simple as a car loan, or is it more involved (requiring w2's and tax return's) ?

Thanks,

We just purchased into AKV.

We ordered the DVD, talked about it for a few weeks, then sent us the big Dream book (would love to see what Disney's Marketing Budget is). Once we got it and decided to call them and go for it.

They took some basic information over the phone and it took all of 10 minutes to get our interest rate, confirmation and our Member ID's. That was on a Wednesday. By Friday we had a big FedEx box waiting for us with all of the paper work needed. They do ask to fill out a credit application (bank account info, mortgage, etc) and required a copy of our Driver's license. That's bout it. Really easy and simple. The only hard part was finding a Notary who would note a Short Mortgage application. Most currancy exchanges aren't bonded to do something like that. Best place to look would be your place of employment. My wife's did it for us and didn't charge a dime.

So, it took basically took about an hour of our time from start to finish.

I am in the same boat. I have rented two times. And am now planning for a January trip. I really enjoy the DVC resorts. So I wonder if I should rent again or actually buy. But if I find something I want to purchase in August will I be to late to get a reservation for January.

Slowbee is right . Takes maybe an hour to do paperwork , but from the time you call and tell them you want to buy and give them a $500.00 deposit you should be able to make reservations by the next day.

When I bought I talked to my guide at 7:50 pm on a Monday and called Wednesday morning to make ressies. I didn't try to call on Tuesday because of work but had received a phone call from DVC welcoming on Wednesday morning.

When we were in the process of buying, our agent looked up space for us for our December trip. If you are going to buy, ask your agent to look up the times and resort/room you want before you buy. He'll be able to hold a reservation for 3 days for you. Once you get your Member ID, you'll call MS and they'll set the reservation using your points.

Thanks for all the info.
Financing through Disney does seem to be the easiest way.
The 10.75% rate does seem a bit steep though.

That is what we did. We rented two previous times. This past trip, we went to the presentation @ the MK to get the Instant FastPasses. We are going down in October for the Tower or Terror 13k race, and instead of paying $800 more points to stay at the Swan, we used it for a down payment at SSR and are now using some of our developer points to cover the trip! It seemed like a big leap, but I believe it will be worth it for us in the end... :-)
