How long does it take to disembark at ports?

Hi everyone!

We'll be on the Western Caribbean itinerary on the Fantasy in a few weeks and, having never cruised before, I'm a bit confused about getting off the ship in port (if you do NOT have an excursion booked).

So if it says that we're in Cozumel from 8:30-4:00 (this is just an example, I'm sure those times aren't accurate, I don't have my paperwork in front of me!) - #1 does that mean we can line up to get off the ship at 8:30?
#2 Should we line up earlier?
#3 How long does this whole process usually take?
#4 Are some ports busier to get out at then others?
#5 (in general) Does it make more sense to get off the ship right away or wait a few hours for crowds to thin out?

I apologize for the MANY questions!!!!

Thank you for any help you can give me :)

If the ship is docked at a pier getting off is easy. They let people who have Disney excursions off first, and then it is a free for all. You can come and go as you please. Also remember there may be delays in docking or clearing customs, so the time is a guideline (useful if you are booking an excursion independently).

If there is a tender port (Grand Cayman) you will have to wait to load and unload the tender boats. This can take a little bit longer and you may want to wait a little if you are not booked on an excursion.

You should not need to wait hours to get off. They do make announcements when everyone can disembark
