how long does a baby eat baby food?

Both my children fall in the never category. We tried rice cereal a couple times with the older DS... but just switched him over to "real" food when that didn't work. He did fine and is a great eater to this day! Our second eats real food only and we never bothered. It is easier to just feed off our plates from the beginning for us.

So it will vary child to child. But there is no "requirement" on baby foods/ages.

No wonder so many families eat way too much fat and sodium, half the food processed in factories doesn't even taste like food with out it!
Exactly! This is why processed food has so much salt, fat, & sugar. Processing strips the food of its flavor, so the manufacturers add in salt/fat/sugar to make it taste good. Humans are also hard-wired to seek out these 3 components, because they are rare in nature, so when we find them we crave more & more.

I've only tasted baby food fruit - could never bring myself to try the veggies - and it was okay, but the ones I tried mostly just tasted vaguely sweet. My DD only just turned 1, so she hasn't had a chicken nugget yet, lol. She prefers veggies & fruits over everything else right now; I swear she'd eat nothing but frozen peas (cold, right out of the freezer) and bananas if we let her.

I think it's great when parents go to the trouble of preparing their own baby food the right way. The problems start when parents start using canned vegetables without rinsing them or meat that is too high in fat. It's heart-breaking to have to tell parents that their child has developed high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes due to poor eating habits. I would like to pat all parents on the back who watch their child's diet so well. Although I have let me kids have an occasional treat, they have been raised on low fat meat, fresh vegetable & fruits. I have a family member who raised her daughter on soft drinks & fast food. The child had so many cavities before she even started school that it took the dentist several trips to fix them all. She never gave her milk to drink after she stopped formula.
