How long do you think it would take you to plan a Disney World vacation?

I'm here!! Sorry I didn't see your post until today and you are already on page 3! Again, I'm so glad you and your family get to go back. I wish it was a couple of weeks earlier so you could be there the same time we are. There are a LOT of Diser's going that week. Have you stayed at POR before? We did in May and it was nice. We had a good time there.

I see ya'll are driving the same pattern we are. It really works well. If we leave Tallahassee at 5am we are usually walking into a park by 10am.

I am glad you made it here. I am taking your advice and we are following your pattern. I don't think we will get the kids out the door by 5am though. I will shoot for 7am and get to the park for noon. Thanks for the tip. I wish we were going at the same time as you too.

:rotfl2: Yeah, we only have one child and he's 4 so it's easier for us to leave really early. If he doesn't want to budge we just get ourselves dressed and packed then scoop him up and put him in the car! :lmao:

I am so glad you get to go again so much earlier than you thought. I read you last tr and enjoyed so I am looking forward to this one too.

coteau_chick...just an OT question (am I ever ON topic?)
Did you have pork (for health), cabbage (for wealth), and black eyed peas (for luck) today? I had NEVER heard of that NYD meal until this year. :confused3

I am sure I have mentioned to you how sassy Courtney can be. She has left me hanging about if she is going to choose to come to Disney World with us or stay with my parents. She doesn't want me to bug her about her choice. I gave her until today to let me know. She told me a little while ago that she is not coming with us.:scared1: Let me tell it to you like she told it to me. She said that we are going during a break from school and she would miss out on doing stuff with her friends. It is actually only a partial break they are only off of school Monday and Tuesday. She said because of that she would miss out on three class days of chemistry. I guess I should be proud that she is sounding responsible. Another reason she gave me is that she would have to miss work. That excuse is hard for me to believe. This is where it really gets sassy. She had the nerve to say that she just went to Disney World and she remembers it vividly so she doesn't need to go back. She said that I am obcessed (sp?) with Disney World and all I do is plan everything we are going to do when we go back. She said that I probbaly even plan where we are going to fart and which trash can we are going to throw our trash in.:scared1: I wanted to slap her silly. Instead I told her I am going to give her one more chance to make up her mind. I will expect an answer by morning. I can't believe my own daughter doesn't know if she wants to go back to Disney World.

My MIL makes that meal every new year but she is out of town. I didn't feel like cooking today so I just made smothered chicken with rice and gravy and macaroni and cheese. I even tried to get Courtney to make the mac and cheese but she wouldn't. So we didn't have the traditional NYD meal. I wonder if this is a southern tradition.

 I'm sorry she's acting that way. She's 16, right? I went through a time in high school/college when I didn't care about WDW either. I made fun of my dad's itineraries with all the ADRs and confirmation numbers and how he planned which parks he would be in on what days, etc. ....you know, typical DIS type stuff (except he wasn't on the DIS).

Now, my planning puts his to shame...and he laughs at me! :rotfl:

I don't think I was ever so sassy about it though. Just gave him a hard time about it and didn't really care if we went to WDW or not....although I always enjoyed it when I was there!

Oh, and yes that NYD meal must be a Southern thing. I've been hearing about it all week...but only from my Southern friends. (Which I did not have many at all at this time last year but I've got a LOT now! :goodvibes )

You're nicer than me.........I wouldn't have offered the choice!
I know, easy for me to say..........my dd with an attitude is only 13.;)
I have to admit that I laughed a little about the planning to fart......you should have told her that you've scheduled that during her potty breaks.:thumbsup2

Happy Early Birthday Jordan !! I was thinking about it and I think I should tell Courtney today that her daddy said she has to go. She did this to us a few weeks ago. She didn't want to come camping with us for the Christmas festival in North Louisiana. We let her stay behind and she called us every five minutes on our cell phone. She regreted the deal. She missed us and she was bored.

That sounds like a good idea. Make her go...she'll regret it if she doesn't!

Ooohh...a Christmas festival sounds like fun. We did very little for Christmas this year. Kind of pathetic...next year we'll have to do more. Our decorations are already down. :sad2:

I'd really push her to go. I know I didn't want to go on some of our family's vacations when I was a teenager. I had no choice, my DM said "It's a family trip and you're in this family like it or not":lmao: That all changed when I got in college and had grown-up responsibilties and couldn't go. I appreciate every single trip my parents made me go on. My family's first trip without me (I was in college and working) was to San Antonio. Well I'm 38yrs old (sshhh don't tell) and this trip still comes up in conversation----the family had a blast on this trip; I always have to remind them that I didn't go on this trip because of college. Their reaction is always the same----"Oh yeah we forgot, well you missed a fantastic trip" Your DD should really try and go with the family before she gets at an age were it's not possible. She'll be in college before you know it.

Yes, it is a southern tradition(at least in my household) and I broke it. My mother couldn't believe it. She told me she thought she raised me right. Anyways, my kids were at her house so they got the meal.

Finding a school like that to work at would be ideal for me. "Sense of community" is not something that I would use to describe the school I'm working at now. If someone is friendly to you, it's only because they want something or because they want to get information to go report back to somebody else on. I'd describe the environment more as "toxic" than "community".

We are fortunate too. This sounds alot like the school that DD9 is in. It goes from Pre-K through 9th grade and all of the teachers that we have had so far have been GREAT!

Hi!!! I'm Alisa and I'm usually more of a lurker than poster. I enjoyed reading your report last Feb. We too are going for Mardi Gras. We live in Houma which is about 1hr south of New Orleans. We've gone to WDW at Mardi Gras for the last three years. We bought DVC last year so we have many trips in our future----at least for the next 50 years. We went twice this year and hope to go three times in '09. With our first Christmas visit in the early talking stages for now. I've subscribed, so I'm in!!! Oh we're going Feb 21-28th and staying at Saratoga Springs. My schedule looks all most exactly like yours------do you get Tour Guide Mike too?

Hey Alisa, I'm from Houma too. We thought about going for Mardi Gras, but decided to go late Jan because we thought the crowds are a little smaller. I haven't tried TGM. I just kinda wing it from all the info here and the UOG book.:confused3

I have to agree with "it's a teenager thing". I have a DD17 (that lives in NI, BTW). We gave her a choice to come with us last year but chose to stay at home/school with her mom in stead. I guess they don't want to leave their social scene too long. She is doing great in school, so I guess we should be proud. It's just that you don't want them to miss out on the fun and memories that will be created. Just this week my family and I were looking at some photos of me back in 74 on a trip that my family took when I was about the same age as DD9.:scared1:

Might be a southern thing. We do it her too. :sad2:

If you watched the movie Steal Magnolias the scene where they are at the Christmas festival is the festival we went to. It is in the town they filmed the movie in.

My husband is going to talk to her. I tend to nag her to death.

I had never heard of this tradition until I met my husband. We didn't do this in my family.
Thank You!!

Courtney makes very good grades too. That is one reason we are giving her a choice. They are doing block scheduling at her school. When she goes back to school this Monday she will have a new set of classes for the rest of the school year. One of her new classes is chemistry. I know it can be hard to catch up if you miss and if she comes with us she will be missing three days. BTW it is a honors chemistry class. If she does come she can get notes from her boyfriend who has the same class as her. I just don't want to force her. I think she will end out coming with us she just lives for drama. If there wasn't drama involved with this decision it wouldn't be Courtney.
