You can always return for fireworks if you have dined that night there. As a former cast member at that location, 1999-2000. They used to have check in on the 15th floor. When California Grill opened in 1995 it was dinner only as it is today besides Sunday brunch and special events. During the first several years of the restaurant opening they used to release the elevators to any guest at 12 pm to allow daytime viewing. Sadly certain people caused issues and everyone pays the price. Also at firework times we used to have to put folders to block elevator sensors from closing the door because too many people tried to come up who weren’t dining to view fantasy in the sky then wishes. CG became to over crowded and one for safety reasons and the other to have real Dining guest to be able to enjoy their experience it was decided in early 2000s to have first check in on the quiet transverse 2nd floor Americas level. Too many people come to WDW and leave their common sense outside the borders of the entire resort and do stupid things which unfortunately effects all guest down the line. Another example is security screening at monorail or park entrance it is sad but in todays world too many unstable people. And no one wants their Disney World vacation to become a regretful nightmare on what some whacko could do. It sad but these are the times
