If I buy the vouchers now and don't redeem them for 2-3 years will they still be good? We are not planning a trip anytime soon, but in case the perk is ended I would like to get the vouchers now.

Once paid for, AP vouchers have no expiration. They can be held for years before being turned in for the AP.

That may not be the case for a renewal voucher.

Hmmm. I never thought of the fact that the vouchers don't expire.

So, should we stock up in case DVC stops the discount? :cool1:

If I had the money to "stock up", I probably wouldn't be worrying about getting a discount, LOL! :teeth:

au contraire! (sp)

A discount here, a discount there and all that money saved piles up! You can
have several meals in Disney for what you are saving on the passes!

Renewals will definitely expire 366 days from the date the last pass was activated. Date of first use is meaningless for a renewal. Since the savings on a renewal vs new pass is minimal (about $16- when you figure in the DVC discount), unless you will need the pass for a trip right at the time it expires, it may be more cost effective to just purchase a new pass when you will actually need it.

Do you HAVE to buy a renewel pass? Can you buy a regular pass instead? We won't need it until after the renewel pass would expire.

Disney used to allow you to renew at the renewal price and then reactivate the pass on your next visit. A few years back they changed the renewal so that it was activated on the anniversary date of the pass. This made it not as good a deal for those of us who have to come a fair distance. When that happened, we started buying APs every other year. You can buy the voucher and it does not become active until you actually use it for the first time. You have that pass for 366 days. We usually take a 12 month, 2week break from Disney after that, and buy a new annual pass voucher to be used after the year's break. Buying an AP every other year is still cheaper than renewing, and it just means that while we might make 3 trips on year, we wont take any the next.

Ahhh, but it is because I worry about the discounts that I can afford to "stock up"!

Wait. This is getting way too confusing :rotfl2: .

Being a new DVC member, I don't know how perks work. Do they ever give you notice of certain perks ending? If they told you what the perks were for the new year, for example, you could see if you should buy an extra voucher now.

Also, if you used an AP voucher to get the DDE card, and then didn't use the voucher that year, could you use the same voucher again the next year to get the DDE card? Not trying to game the system, just curious.

Nope. They don't tell us ahead of time - unless you count telling us that the price of DVC points is going up in about a month or so, LOL.

Oh wait - I think they told us way ahead of time that the "free park admission" that came with OKW and some VB sales was going to end on 12/31/1999.

But other than that - no!

Best wishes-

We are going to buy 3 passes each to make sure we take advantage of the discount JUST IN CASE Disney takes the perk away. I know that sounds crazy but the renewal thing doesn't work for us so this is the way to go for us and since they don't expire at any time and ticket prices keep going up in price, it just makes sense to make the purchase.

No, if your renewal would have expired, you just buy a new one. :)

Hmmm...we got our AP's with the DVC discount for free with points from our Disney Visa. Right before the next price increase, maybe I'll buy a few more and put them in a safety deposit box for a few years.
