How long are annual passes good for?

IfI buy an annual pass and activate it April 19, 2015, when will it expire? We will probably go back again April 16, 2016 and I want to know if it's worth buying. Thanks!

April 19, 2016 you will be admitted in your scenario. The 20th you will not w/o renewal.

Annual passes are just that-good for park access for one year/365 days from first activation! We have ap's which we bought last year having upgraded our base tickets on our last trip-as we had already used the tickets before upgrade, the annual pass was instantly activated even though we didn't upgrade until the last day of our stay. Our first day was may the 21st and therefor they run out on may 20th this year. I believe that there is a month for you to renew the ap with a discount?! But we're not there yet so am not sure!

Best thing about an ap is that we then knew we would be going 'home' again in less than a year

I activate my AP Aug 21, 2014...can I still get in the park Aug 21, 2015 or does my AP expire Aug. 20, 2015 at midnight?

I was on phone yesterday with CM asking question about AP magic band and then asked about expiration date and he didn't know the correct answer..Thanks

If you activate on 8/21/2014, the last day the pass can be used is 8/21/2015.

If you are using a regular MYW ticket at the parks, and you use that ticket as credit towards upgrading to an AP, the start date of the AP will be the first day you used your MYW ticket, NOT the date you did your AP upgrade. If you waited to upgrade until the last day of use of your MYW ticket, your AP would still be dated to the first date of use of the ticket, and that could be as far back as 13-14 days.

I don't know if OP is buying an AP with a ticket credit or not, but I wanted to mention the above because it could make a difference to some people who are considering an AP purchase to cover future WDW visits.
