How likely would it be to receive an upgrade to the honeymoon suite?

I keep hearing about guests getting free upgrades to concierge. I really don't want to book a honeymoon suite, if there is a chance I will get a free upgrade from a regular king room. Does this usually happen in certain resorts over others? What is the chance that this will happen? Do certain times of the year make a difference? I want the honeymoon to be perfect, but I would also like to save money. Is the honeymoon suite worth it? Should I just go ahead and fork out the cash? Thanks :Pinkbounc

Kariktn, welcome to the Dis!

Upgrades are rare, very rare, so if you really want to plan the perfect honeymoon, please book the room that your heart desires, in this case it sounds like that is a honeymoon room.

You haven't stated which honeymoon room you are interested in -- honeymoon rooms are offered in various forms at the GF, BWI, and WL (there may be others, but those resorts immediately come to mind). If it were my honeymoon, I would love to try a honeymoon room (aka, Garden Suite) at the BWI. Click here for a link to photos on the OurLaughingPlace website.

No matter what you ultimately choose to do, have a ~magical~ honeymoon. Congratulations!

It is your one and only honeymoon, book what you would love. So many people honeymoon at WDW that there can't be enough upgrades for all. We honeymooned at WDW in '94. We booked a honeymoon suite at the GF for our first night and then moved over to the CBR for the rest of the week. Even though I didn't spend the entire week in that wonderful room, I feel as though we did something really special for our honeymoon. You read about some people getting really special treatment/surprises for their celebrations here on the DIS and start to hope for it for yourself. I do hope something "extra" comes your way, but don't start counting on it, you may just end up dissapointed and that is no way to feel on your honeymoon. Do make a PS for a meal at CRT and mention it is your honeymoon, they make an extra effort there. I don't know which resort you were looking into staying at but I have read about the best treatment being at the Poly. Book a conceirge room there (even if only for a night or two of your stay) for all sorts of magical memories. Enjoy planning for your special time :) best wishes.

There are very few honeymoon rooms. If you wait until you check in it's LIKELY that you won't be able to upgrade EVEN IF YOU PAY FULL RACK RATE.

Minor upgrades (standard view to pool view) are not all that rare. Major upgrades (standard to concierge) are very rare. You really should book a honeymoon room (since that's what you want).

I also vote for paying for what you want....If you really want a honeymoon suite...pay for it...if your satisfied with a regular room get that and spend the extra on dinner...:):)

We stayed at the Poly for our honeymoon and had a view of the parking lot. No upgrades here. :( If you really want the suite, you're better off reserving it in advance. BTW, congratulations!

About as likely as your wedding getting upgraded to St. Paul's Cathedral in London.

You would be very fortunate to have the opportunity to pay rack rate for a honeymoon suite. I'm sure they are reserved far in advance, and there just aren't enough of them to go around.

If you aren't able to get an actual honeymoon suite or suitable nice room at a deluxe resort, consider booking a 1BR suite at a DVC ("home away from home") resort. These are very nice, nicer than just about any non-suite room at WDW, and include a jacuzzi tub! The rack rates for them are high ($385 in value season), but they're a better value than suites in the deluxe resorts, and there is the option of renting points for further savings.

I know the suites look terrific, but most cost SO MUCH MORE than regular rooms. It would be terrible to have to eat at counterservice or food courts the whole trip to be able to afford the suite, and even worse to start a marriage with a huge credit card bill to pay for the suite.

My sage advice: Look at all the pictures you can find online (many on wdwig.com) and consider reserving a king room at the deluxe resort with the decor that is most beautiful to the two of you. Pay the extra money to upgrade to the most magical view you can get.

My honeymoon was spent in a very small but beautifully decorated room in a small hotel in Interlaken, Switzerland. The room was probably no bigger than a room at one of the All Stars resorts, but I have terrific memories of it!

Note: I'm assuming that money is a factor. If money is truly no object, go for it and reserve the suite!!!

If anyone would get bumped to a honeymoon suite at the few hotels that do have "dedicated" honeymoon suites, it would be someone already paying concierge rate for a honeymoon, and that's really only going to happen if no one is in those rooms really but the resort is packed- a lot of factors are thrown into it. There are VERY FEW PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY GET UPGRADED FOR FREE TO ANYTHING WHEN RESORTS ARE NOT FULL. Be prepared to not even get a king bed- those are requests, not guarentees, and if the resort is hopping those rooms are hard to come by (even right now in the value season). Usually concierge is not a complimentary upgrade unless there are specific operational reasons to do so- those of you who have gotten that upgrade have come at a busy time!! :D

I'm thrilled that so many people *seem* to get upgrades, but overall its a very small minority of guests....here, with loyal Disney-ites, its awesome to hear about CMs making magic for you. Unfortunately, I think it sometimes breeds unrealistic expectations that you can come down and always get something for free. That's not reality. When CMs make it happen, its magic and its great, but its not guarenteed.

It's your honeymoon, make it magical- if its within your budget to get a special honeymoon room, I would go for it- it hopefully will be your one and only honeymoon, and you deserve it. If its not in your budget, go for a nice waterview room or something like that at a hotel. You could splurge on a awesome dinner or something else- there are plenty of wonderful things you can do at Disney with extra money you would spend on a suite.

This is so true! My family has been to wdw more than 40 times and only been upgraded for free ONCE. And that was at the discretion of a cast member, who took a fancy to my daughter and realized it was her b-day that week (we didn't even tell him, he read it on the screen).

DO NOT plan on getting one, or even hope for it. You will get what you pay for, but if you don't pay and 'hope' for an upgrade, you're going to be disappointed. As people have said too, the GF has very few honeymoon suites, so don't leave it to chance.

This is your honeymoon, don't leave it to chance. If your heart is set on it, pay for it.

Upgrades are to the next level and in most cases to spread out the work load for the Mousekeepers. There are only a few honeymoon suites, in some resortss only 1, so you had better book it if it is important to you.

I agree with the other posters--if that's what you have your heart set on and you can afford it, then go ahead and book it. While small upgrades occur occasionally (like being upgraded from garden to lagoon view), large upgrades (like being upgraded to a honeymoon suite) happen VERY, VERY rarely. Also, there are TONS of honeymooners who stay at Disney, so it's highly possible that no honeymoon suites would even be available at all.

I am amoung the majority of guests that NEVER get upgraded. In more visits to Disney then I can count I got upgraded once. From Standard view to garden view at YC.

Does not really bother me, but I think that reading about upgrades sets an unrealistic picture. Remember people who don't get upgraded don't post. (We are not disappointed, just don't have anything to post about! LOL!)
