we will be leave by Anmal Kingdom Lodge on Thanks giving day. Our flight is not until 7:00 and the night before is a 2-00am close at MK. What are the chances I could get a late check out that day. Not too many people should be checking in on Thanksgiving, right???

I think the resort will be pretty full, don’t be disappointed if you can’t get it. I think your DME pick up is at 4:00 for a 7:00 Flight. Sleep in, get your luggage checked in at airline desk, store carry on with Bell Service, then enjoy a later breakfast at Boma or Saana if you can get an ADR. If it’s a nice warm day you can spend it at the pool. They have lockers, showers, etc. by the pool.

Or go to FW Trails End for a meal. Bus to MK then get the FW boat. After meal wander around FW, the ponies and horse barn are near by. You can then take the boat from FW over to CR to explore, and if time permits monorail hop the other resorts before returning to MK and get bus back to AKL.

There’s always Disney Springs to pass time too.

I wouldn't ever assume anything about what day people check in and out at Disney. You can have a lot of folks who will spend time at Disney and then head off to do Thanksgiving meal with family, then head home.
If it's really important to you to be able to stay longer you can pay for an additional night.
We made that choice when it was important to us to have a room early (paid for the night before)
I would start by asking myself what time I'd want to check out. 11:00 is pretty late already. We frequently use up every single minute of that time, walking out at 11:00, heading to lunch.

I would be surprised if you get a late checkout. We didn't even have a full resort during a low season and couldn't get one extra hour.

We got one at AOA over Columbus Day week, but only until 11:30. They said that’s all they could do for us because the resort was completely booked.

Obviously anecdotal, but we arrived last year on Thanksgiving day. Flights were CHEAP that day and airports not crowded at all. Made much more sense $ and time-wise than flying the next day.

As for late check-out....it is possible but not likely (Disney resorts run at such a high occupancy the odds are against you, generally speaking). More often than not they have said no. A couple of times they gave us 12PM, once we got 1PM.

You’ve been given some good advice about how to fill the day above.

Have fun!

If you are in a DVC villa, DVC resorts do not give late check outs because the villas take longer to clean (dishes to wash, kitchens to clean, etc).

We got it once at The Contemporary on Christmas Day. We wanted to go to the park and see the parade and then go back to the room to change and freshen up. They let us have the room until 2. I think it is just random luck if you get it.

Last March my daughter was sick when we were there (hospital level of sick). They let us stay in the room until it was time to go to the airport. We had been planning on leaving the room at around 7 and hanging out in the park until 4. They were quite concerned about her. They even sent us complimentary meals from the Ca Grill. Management came by to check on us a few times. But - this is not the preferred way to extend your check out time!

You never know and doesn't hurt to ask. But I'm checking in on Thanksgiving this year so there will be at least one checking in :) I'm driving up from South Florida and figure the traffic will be better in the morning on Thanksgiving instead of going up Wednesday night after work.

People travel every day. Thanksgiving is a holiday in ONE country. And many people don't care about it. You're traveling home that day. So it makes sense that some are going the other way.

Reverse engineer your last day from the flight to figure out what exactly a late checkout would do for you. I haven't found it does all that much. Heck, we once had the elusive villa late checkout due to issues and the need to change rooms (one of only two I've ever read about here) and it did nothing useful for us.

Most we’ve ever gotten was one hour extra. That was at AKL. Everywhere else we’ve asked, they could not accommodate a late check out at all.

Flights are soooo much Cheaper on Thanksgiving. What we saved n flight we used to make a 7 day stay a 9 day stay. Who needs to keep the money they save , right??

When I asked for late checkout at AKL last April, I was told no. The Cm then explained that they have a limited number of rooms that they can give a late check-out to. If that is the case, I'd ask for a late check-out when you check-in. I'm going to when I go back in January.

I did not realize that there were lower fares on Thanksgiving Day. Good to know.
