How likely is upgrade at AKL next week?

I was just wondering what our chances for an upgrade at AKL were for next week. We are leaving on Sunday of next week and will be there for 5 days. We have 2 standard rooms right now. I don't want to ask for an upgrade (can't afford one and don't want to appear greedy), but would love to have a "room with a view". I was also wondering if anyone knows if there are bunk beds in the standard rooms. My two boys do not sleep well together (and they are no fun sleeping with me or my husband!) so a bunk bed for them would be ideal. Thanks for your help.

I wouldn't expect one. But when you check in ask about the bunk beds and perhaps they can help you. Have a wonderful stay. The AKL is a favorite.

You may be surprised and actually get a great upgrade at the AKL. We did two summers ago ~ standard room to savannah view. Granted, we were w-a-y out there at the end of the halls, but we loved the view! All we had requested was N/S, best view available.

I think I read somewhere how the AKL has many more pool view or savannah view rooms in comparison to standard, so chances are better of an upgrade at this resort. Whatever your view is, the resort is beautiful. And there are windows all along the hallways where you can stop to look out at the animals as well as Arusha Rock in the lobby where you can walk out and look at them too. At night they offer night vision goggles to see the animals out there, and CM's are all around to answer questions.

Good luck! PD to you! :wizard:

We went this time last year and we were very happy to find out we got an upgrade without asking. WE hope to leave this weekend aslong as the snow doesn't shut down our airport. Even if it does we will be at the AKL the same time as you.

Have fun

This may sound like a dumb question but you said you booked 2 standard rooms. There are standard pool view and standard savannah view (& there ared deluxe savannah view rooms that are a little bigger than standard rooms). We have 2 standard savannah view rooms booked in Feb. You can request bunk beds but its only a request, they can't guarantee them. We have the request noted on our reservation. But, with your trip coming so soon I think I read somewhere on this board that you can fax a room request to AKL. Maybe that would give you a better chance of getting bunk beds than just requesting them on day of your arrival. Maybe someone else knows about faxing in room requests? If not, check out allearsnet.com.
Would you mind posting when you get back? I'd love to hear how your trip goes with our 1st trip to AKL coming up!
Have a great time! :D

There are also deluxe pool view. All the deluxe rooms are on the 5th floor, and the sixth(all of the sixth and part of the 5th are concierge)

There really are not many standard rooms. I also made a point to look at the pool view view from the lowest floor that I had heard mentioned. Some of those rooms are COMPLETELY obscured by vegetation...some had low plantings that would still afford a water view, but some had plants so large you'd be able to see absolutley nothing.

The standard view rooms toward the right side of the lobby (when facing toward the hotel) would be really close and convenient to both the pool and the bus stop.

You can see animals everywhere. It was a great hotel. I did receive the bunk beds and the savannah view I requested, although neither was guaranteed.

Both times I stayed there, we had booked Standard and were upgraded to a Savannah view. That was a nice surprise and we didn't ask for it on our ressie. The only thing we specified was non-smoking.

Now, as far as the bunkbeds... when we had our kids with us, we were given two queens beds. We didn't have any requests on the reservation for beds, but we asked at the front desk when we checked in. They didn't have bunk beds available that time. 2nd time we went, we were on our second honeymoon - without kids and we ended up in a room with bunk beds  . It was late at night when we checked in, so I didn't fight that. We had requested a King room on our ressie and they didn't have that available, but they did upgrade us to Savannah view. Actually, the bunk beds were kind of fun without the kids.
