How late is too late?

I’m torn on what to do. Originally, we planned on going to Disneyland. Either in October or February. But my heart keeps inching towards Disney World. Here’s the thing, how silly would it be to book a trip to WDW just a month or two before we would leave? Because of work, I can’t plan a year in advanced. My BF does construction and his available time off depends on what projects are going on or are upcoming.

I thought Disneyland would be a good choice because the dining is different. No need to book so far in advance. If we did WDW, I would more than likely do the dining plan and would want a few character meals. How quick do reservations fill up? I’m not super picky about where we eat and which characters we see, but I’d hate to buy the dining plan and not be able to use the table service credits bc the restaurants were already full.

I rarely book more than 2 or 3 months out so I don't think it's too late at all. As far as last minute ADRs, we never book ADRs any further in advance than the night before, normally it's the morning of from the room or during the afternoon walking around the parks. Now we don't do the dining plan and you couldn't pay me to eat at a character meal so I'm not sure about those. We have never had any problems getting something the same day though. The trick is to either have park hoppers so you can eat at any of the parks or not to mind the time.

I have often booked trips in that timeframe and was able to get every ADR we wanted - including 'Ohana and some character meals. I haven't wanted to book Cinderella's Royal Table but I could have - although that's a tough one to get last minute. It may take some perseverance if there's a very popular restaurant you're wanting but you will not be short on dining choices. Certainly not every restaurant on property will be completely booked so don't worry too much.

Thank you!! I think the deciding factor will be cost. As it stands, DL is cheaper even if I factor in out of pocket foods costs in DL. We would stay off property. If I can somehow manage to score free dining at DW, I would def choose that over DL.
