We will be arriving sometime in the evening on December 25th. Do we need to call ahead and tell them that we may be late?

The above answer is perfect.

There is absolutely ZERO need to call ahead. There wouldn't even be any way for Disney to note that on your reservation, but more importantly, there would be no reason for it.

As long as you show up by 6 a.m. the following day, you'll have your room. It may be new and different for you to show up to a hotel late at night, but at Disney it's just another day at the office, happens hundreds and hundreds of times every day of the year.

1) There is only one reason to call ahead.
2) If you check-in between 1:00am-4:00am and want key charging.
. . . keys are pre-printed for 1:00-3:00 arrivals
. . . each key is coded for non-charging
. . . they need to be re-coded for room charging
. . . you then go back to Front Desk the next day to get new keys
3) If you want room charging
. . . call or have it noted on the ressie
. . . the room keys will be pre-printed and coded for charging
. . . they will take a credit card imprint when you check-in
. . . no need to return to Front Desk for new keys

NOTE: The computers go down 2:0am-4:00am, so check-in and keys cannot be completed. Thus, they do a check-in with the available info and pre-print the keys. Since they don't have your credit card, they code the keys as non-charging. The card you gave on the phone is only in the computer with the last four digits showing, so it cannot be used again
