Have any of you been to WDW in February? And if you have, how did you find the weather? Was it cold? Did it stop you from doing all the things (i.e. waterparks, wet rides) that you'd normally do?

We've only been to WDW in January (ages ago in 1996), March, May, and August. I remember vaguely that in January 1996 we weren't able to go to the waterparks because they were shut down for a clean.

We're thinking of going next year in mid-February because our DDs' have an early spring break due to the Olympics. Any opinions out there? TIA!

COLD:eek: On our very first trip we had to wear fleece jackets and stretchy gloves....and I am thinking....I just flew 3000 miles for THIS????? Never again as I sprinted from the pool to the hot tub. Some afternoons warmed up nicely to 70f but was cold when we got back to our room. If you are not bothered by the temperature and enjoy low crowds (we went from feb 6-15 before Presidents day) then you will have a great time!

It can be hit and miss..
I was there the past 2 Febs and the last one was chilly at night to begin with then it warmed up nicely. The one previous was gorgeous.:confused3

In general though..Florida can be cold in the winter months as expected. Orlando is not in the southern most part either..

We were there this year from the 5th to the 14th and it was beautiful. We plan on going the same time next year.

I haven't been in February, but just wanted to say that I enjoyed your reviews:thumbsup2 So glad you liked AKL.
We were originally thinking of Feb 2010 also as our DS is out of school too, but when I looked into it, it seems to be peak season the last 2 weeks of Feb. I didn't want to pay those prices, so we sweated it out in August again:rotfl2:
My sister is a TA in Texas though, and she had told me the better week (during Olympics) to go is the 4th week as the 3rd week will be busy with Valentines Day, Presidents Day. HTH:)

Thanks everyone for your input. We are contemplating a warm getaway in Feb. If Orlando is in the 70s (21 degree Celsius), that's quite OK. It's normally that temp in Vancouver during May/June.

Thanks for reading my reviews. I'm still working on the dining reviews though. It'll take a while. Are you going to write one? It's always interesting to hear other people's experiences.
And oh, I had completely forgotten that the 3rd week was Valentine's Day, etc. :headache: Back to the drawing board.

I went a few years back at the end of february/ beginning of march. I dont remember when the water parks open, but they were when I went. the water was great, I sun tanned a little, but the afternoons rain alot - only problem. The rain isnt super warm but there was no need for jackets or pants, just tshirt and shorts.

I wrote a brief one (while I was still tired) for this board a few days ago. I haven't posted it anywhere else yet though. Here it is:

Thank you for the encouragement that Orlando in Feb. may potentially be a warm place and time to go. After our fantastic August trip, we are tempted to go back and relive the good times. However, Hawaii is also in the running...

Aristocat65: Great review! Now how in the world did I miss your post??? We flew out on the 8:45am flight on Alaska, and found it perfect for us. I really didn't like to arrive in so late at night so we opted for the sleepover in Seattle (we stayed at the Doubletree Seattle Airport and used the MasterPark Garage).

last year it was cold and rainy when we were there at the end of jan beginning of feb,but not as cold as here for sure!

We almost always go in Feb. Nothing good ever happen in Feb so we try to go then to cheer ourselves up, plus when we travel with my sister's family ( she teaches in a university and this is thier reading week) we go then. It can be cold. But its a heck of a lot colder here. Usually a light sweater is good. But we have been there in the high 80's and well the low 40's too.

The pools are heated, but DH cant swim so we dont go no matter what temp it is outside, usually one of the water parks is closed for re-firb. Also some of the parks can close earlier than in the summer months. But downtown Disney is open still :)

5 months to go!

We were there in Feb'09 during the state of emergency cold spell.

It was cold. <<full stop>>
We had to buy extra fleece. <<full stop>>

I dunked my toe in the pool one night while doing laundry just to say I went into the pool. Needless to say we were not prepared for the cold as we didn't believe the weather reports. Funny hubby and I are thinking what to do during the Olympics -- we thought of Hawaii, maybe Disneyland as the Cheerleaders are out in full force in Feb and it was fun at first, by the end of the trip I wanted to throttle them. LOL My husband now and then will toss out a "Westside Gators" and it's enough to get 'the look' from me :lmao::lmao::scared1::scared1:

Anyways; there was a state of emerg so it was unusually cold; I don't know what the weather is usually like then. :confused3

Oh my goodness...I'm sensing that Feb. is kind of touch and go where weather is concerned. The waterparks are a must-do for us because we all have a blast there as a family. Too risky...maybe we should lean more towards Hawaii then.

But if WDW comes out with some smoking deal, I am not too sure I can resist.

Try hawaii, makes the next wdw trip all that more special :)

Right now we are thinking of maybe island hopping; we've really not decided our hawaiian plans.

We were there too!! Had no clue that it was a state of emergency though. My darling H refused to wear pants and wore sweaters and shorts. Every CM we met asked if he was crazy or Canadian?? I said both! lol
We were camping at Fort Wilderness and we ran out of propane heating it! lol Haven't done that yet here in Canada! lol
The day we left Florida our friends passed us in Jacksonville and their 2 weeks were HOT!!! She came home with a tan... So I think its just a crap shoot with the weather in Jan-Feb....
And... the one waterpark was still open while we were there. Not sure who actually went to it... but it was open!

last year we were there for record cold snap...state of emergency. I didn't bring enough "winter" stuff as I left it at home. I bought a fleece. however lastyear was freaky cold!

We too are looking at WDW... or Hawaii... or DL and Hawaii.... hahaa go figure!

Anyways what I am more curious is how busy is WDW the last 2 weeks of Feb? We are leaving town for the same reason -- to avoid the olympics.

I went there just after the cold snap ... it was fine for a canuck. Presidents day weekend is the only time that I found it busy.

COLD:eek: On our very first trip we had to wear fleece jackets and stretchy gloves....and I am thinking....I just flew 3000 miles for THIS?????

We went during the cold snap too last February and thought the exact same thing!! I travelled how far for this???? Grrr

You were VERY fortunate....it started to warm up on the 6th, then it was beautiful and sunny the 7th, the day we had to leave for home!

Yes, our (so called) friends always tease us that Florida only gets cold when we're there.....seems to be the trend the last couple of years....hate to tell all of you we're going again! Lets hope the curse is finally broken! :lmao:

But seriously OP, it really is hit and miss....its always nice to get away from shovelling the white stuff no matter when you go! ;)

Well, after reading all your replies, we did not want to chance the weather. We decided against going back to WDW...though that was a tough decision as we had the BEST trip in August at the AKL and wanted a repeat experience.

Instead, we are going to Honolulu and Maui in February. The kids have 2 weeks' spring break, early this year to coincide with the Olympics. We have booked our flights and hotels, and am so looking forward to it.

To the previous poster and others who're going in Feb., I really hope the weather is warm for you, and you don't have to bring the fleece and gloves.

Did you get any good deals? I've never been to Hawaii and so I got a bunch of pamphlets etc but am so overwhelmed... planning our Hawaii trip is more stressful than any Disney trip -- including the one with 7 people! :lmao:
