How is US/IOA around New Year's?

The boys and I are just 5 wks out from our trip to US/IOA, but hubby is only home 10 days this summer and will miss out. If he's not traveling New Year's (a distinct possibility, but he may not have to leave until Jan 3), I would love to park the kids with grandma for 4 days and fly down just the 2 of us between Christmas and New Year's. He is a big HP fan, and we both love roller coasters (our tweens do not - weird boys), so I'm thinking this might be a good getaway for us.

I need to find something to do with just the two of us at that time, no matter what. He's traveling something like 60% this year, and we need some alone time. I don't want to drag him through US/IOA if it's super crowded, but I know he would love the parks.

So, is it worth trying, or should I book something else for the 2 of us around that time?

If you don't want to drag him through the parks if it's super crowded, I would suggest staying away from the Orlando area during Christmas week...if your main goal is a theme park getaway. It's the busiest time of the year for all locals parks so you will also get wall-to-wall crowds at SeaWorld and Disney as well as Universal. There are plenty of other things to do here during that week of course but touring any of the parks will be a test in patience.

Anyhoo...IOA will be slammed that week...to say nothing about the crowds at HP during that time. If your goal is to go to WWoHP, I would strongly suggest waiting until a slower period so you both can enjoy it.

That's what I was afraid of. :/ I'll see if I can find someplace else for us to go. Anytime the kids are in school, I can't go anywhere.
