How is this handled? re: points

We have a reservation for 3 nights next weekend in Vero Beach using points borrowed from next year. The forecast calls for possible bad weather next Friday. If we can not fly out Friday it is not worth it to us to leave any later seeing that we are only going to be there for the long weekend. What happens to those points if we have to cancel as late as Friday, the day we are to arrive? Thank you!

From the Member Website:

Cancelling a reservation 30 days-1 day prior to check-in:
All the Vacation Points used to make the reservation will be placed in the Holding Account in the Use Year in which the reservation falls.

Cancelling a reservation on the check-in date:
All the Vacation Points used to make the reservation will be forfeited.

So, you'd have to call by Thursday to have them placed in the holding account.

I highly doubt that MS will do anything in this situation since it is mother nature we are talking about. The unfortunate thing is that they are borrowed points that will expire by UY end regardless. Its always worth a try.......

I doubt it. Why should they? It's stated very clearly in the paperwork as quoted above.

They sometimes make exceptions if there is a major hurricane coming but not for just rain. They would always be making exceptions.

I'm not talking about rain. I'm talking about weather possibly being bad enough to cancel flights out.

Your best bet is to decide the day before the trip, and take your best gut feeling if you think the flight will happen, you could wait until close to closing time for MS. If you do have to cancel, point will go into a holding account and thats a pain for planning the next trip.

If you wait until the day of the trip, points will be gone.

This is why you should get trip insurance. You never know what will come up. Disney does send out the insurance info with your ressie sheet. I would bet that is what you will be told but nice things have been know to happen.
