I hate to run up our credit cards and we have some cash saved up, but I don't feel it's wise to carry too much cash. I was thinking traveler's checks, but it sounds like they cost money to turn back into cash. What do you do?

Hi Mom2jp,

If you have a lot of cash saved and you don't want to use trevellers cheques why don't you get all the cash you have saved up and transfer it into your credit card account, this way you still have the convenience of using a credit card but you won't have the worry of a big bill to pay when you get home!

Hope this helps!
Take care,
Ber.;)

I'm with you Ber! I carry very little cash with me & have a card put on my PHP. That I carry in a fanny pack that fits snugly & securely around my waist. Leaves my hands free for holding on for dear life on some rides:teeth: It also has room for my 2nd pair of glasses in a hard case, my rain slicker & digital camera! Sounds like a lot but it works great!

As far as I know, there is no charge to use Traveler's Checks at Disney (or anywhere else that I've ever been), but some people do have to pay a fee when purchasing them from their bank.

I usually carry a combination of cash and TC's in my fanny pack. No problems yet!

I would love to live at FWC!!! It was soooo nice!!! Read my reply in the FW thread..oh geeeze brain freeze here..don't remember the exact name of the thread! We were supposed to go this November but we had to post-pone it until next Nov. :( I believe it had to do with camping in November.

If you are staying on site, put the money on your charging account at the check-in desk and then use your ticket to charge whatever you need in the parks and DD. You can also change that cash to travlers checks before you go and then do the same thing. You can also lock the travlers checks in your in room safe and then pay off your charging account at the desk as need be. This is what we do.
you will need a little cash for the parks but not much. A few drink stands and the BEAVER TAIL STAND don't take the room charge key. We carry the key, a little cash and whatever else we take into the parks in a large Mickey Fanny pack the DH wears.

I have an idea for carrying CCs, passes, your room key and cash that I read here on the Tips Board. Buy a wallet insert that holds pictures and CCs and put everything in there. I bought mine at Claire's Boutique, the teeny-bopper store in just about every mall. They come in different colors like blue, green and clear so each member of your family can have their own and you can also decorate them with stickers to further personalize them :).

We always use Travelers checks. We like to keep track of what we are spending and with credit cards we find it too easy to lose track. We get our Travelers checks through AAA. They are free if you are a member. Also check the cost at your local bank if you are not an AAA member. We then keep the surplus in the safe in our room. We have done this for years and it has worked out well.

What I did was to convert a fair amount of cash into Disney Dollars at my local Disney Store before I left. That spends anywhere in The World and you can keep extra cash, travelers checks or DD in the safe in your room. All disney resorts have them.

I keep very little cash on hand since there are ATMs available. Also those of us camping don't have a safe in our room...we don't even have a room! hahahahaha

Disney dollars are not any safer than cash. If you lose your disney dollars they are gone. If you don't want to use credit or ATM's then please go with traveler's checks.

You might want to check what fees your bank and the ATM machine at WDW charges. If you have to pay fees for both, that could add up pretty quick if you use them a lot.

By the way, the last time I was there the ATM machine at the Publix had no fee. Since my credit union does not charge me for out of network ATMs it was a great deal.

For some reason the ATM's @ Disney are not compatible w/ my ATM cards. We stayed off site and the one @ our hotel worked, and we used it @ SeaWorld. We tried multiple times to use it @ Disney and it would not work! According to the back of the card it was compatible w/ that particular machine.... so who knows! Anyway, I had brought very little cash, left it in the savings acct. so it would be safe and was it ever! even from me! We ended up using the CC's and that is difficult to track!

So, we are using TC's and some cash this time.

If you use a wallet, wrap a rubber band around it. The rubber band makes it harder for someone to pick you pocket without you noticing....

when we go to the parks, one of us carrys a belly bag and we put all our money, credit cards, park tickets and hotel keys in it . THis seemed to work very well, and was convienent.
