Dh and I are going from Aug 17-27 and was just curious about the crowds and parks...

Does anyone have any info?

we'll be there Aug 18-23. I know a lot of southern schools have gone back by then.....so I am hoping it isn't too crazy.

We're going August 13-20. I'm assuming it won't be as busy as usual summer crowds, but again who knows. :confused3 According to DIS board polls, there will be a lot of DISers my week - that I can live with! :thumbsup2 We typically go the second week of August and definately things calm down with back to school happening, but park attendance has also been at its highest!

Hope this helps!

Oh, Suzyq9241, those are our dates, too!!

Can't compare the crowd levels to any other time of year, because this is the time period we've always gone. Over the past 3 years, though, the crowds seem to be inching upward.

BY getting there early and leaving for a break mid-day, perhaps, you might be able to get on more of the more popular rides before the wait times increase. Also make sure to make use of the fastpass.

The parks close earlier this time of year, if I'm recollecting correctly. The crowds seem to dissipate more in the evenings so, again, getting on the rides is easier.

Can't wait to "run into you." :rotfl:

Is that a popular time to go?

I was torn between Sept and Aug.

I decided on Aug because its our anniversay and I thought that would be a nice to go.

I hope we do run into each other...

I am staying at CSR and You?

You will find that most of the southern schools have gone back to class by then. The weekends really pick up though. I have been for that third week twice now, and most likely doing it again next summer. It's hot/humid, but the crowds were better than the time we went in May or June.

We will be there the 22 to the 29! Looks like alot of us! Never been in August so, who knows??? Just go with the flow and hope for lots of pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

We went that week last year during free dining, and the parks were empty. 20 minute waits were the longest. The only time we noticed big crowds anywhere was during the EMH evening hours at MK. Then it was packed and there were longer waits so we left.

The second week is great, as the parks stay open very late at night, MK especially. During the 3rd week the hours get cut back at some point, don't they?

Both times we've been down in August it has been super-humid, even at 9AM. The late evenings are wonderful though, and not very crowded.

Re park hours - yes they become a little shorter but Spectromagic and Wishes in MK is every night right through to the end of August (and possibly longer?)

We have been twice before at this time of year but it is about 5 years ago - found the crowds to be very manageable - absolute quietest of all was the time we went just after Labor Day weekend.

We are going this year 18th August to 1st September - 1st week at US and the second at WDW.

Count us in too. We will be there Aug. 21-Aug 31. The last two times that we have been have been in the middle of July, so I am thinking that I will think that the crowds are smaller regardless. I figure we had a great time in the middle of July, so we can handle anything. I have read other accounts that said the the park crowds were not too bad, but that the restaurants were packed due to the free dining.

See you at Walt Disney World!
8/12-17 VWL
8/17-20 AKL
8/20-26 BCV

See yall there! I cant wait! I just bought some things for our trip and Im going to pack them in my suitcase when I get home! LOL!

Is anyone going to be wearing their lime mickeys? I will be! :cool1:

Our gang will be there 8/25 to 9/2 at POFQ. We were there last year at that time right before Katrina hit New Orleans.

The crowds were very light in all parks. Waits were very short for most rides except soaring which just opened.

Going back this year at same time because the crowds were so light. They did the free dining plan as well last year.

:yay:

We went the last week in August in 2002 and were totally spoiled, so it will be interesting to be there earlier this time - 8/16 to 8/22. I don't expect crowd levels to be quite so low, but the parks are open 2-3 hours later so there's a trade-off, I guess. Our ADR's were made months ago, fortunately. I hadn't thought about local weekend crowd issues, but I've planned Saturday for Epcot and early Sunday for MK with plans to park-hop randomly later, so that should work out OK. I won't be wearing the lime green this year, but always look for those who are - hope to see fellow DISers having a fantastic time!

We'll be there from August 13th-18th. :woohoo:
We were at Disney over the 4th of July a few years ago. I'm assuming that if we handled that without a problem, then August will be very manageable in comparison. Even if it is crowded -- no matter. It's still better than being at work!! ;)

We'll be there too (08/20 to 05/09) it's our 8 th stay and we're accustomed to stay in WDW at the same period : the weather is very hot but it's often raining at the end of the afternoon and this rain is really a "gift" !!!

I think that with the free dining plan it's more cautious to make reservations before arriving, I did so because my kids want to eat with the princesses and with winnie and his friends !

Last year it was not very crowdy and during EMH we did'not wait a long time except for soarin !
