We always rent 2 bedroom condos when we travel, and this might be our first trip in ONE room with ONE bathroom. We definitely want to stay on the monorail. Right now we have 2 rooms booked to get an extra bathroom. For financial (and other) reasons we are considering just getting one room. We've never all stayed together in one room before. It'll be me, DH, and our 5 year old triplets. Please give me the *REAL* truth on how it is sleeping in the same room with your kids, sharing one bathroom, etc. DH is totally freaked out at the thought of only one bathroom, but I think it'll be ok. I figure we'll be so tired every day that we won't care???

Please help me either convince him to cancel one room or convince me that 2 rooms is the only way to go!

(BTW, when the kids are a little older we'll probably rent DVC points and get a Villa, but not for this trip.)

Thanks!

We had five in a Polynesian room - two queen sized beds and a twin sized day bed. It wasn't too bad, the kids were young, 4, 9 and 11 and the girls weren't into hair and makeup yet.

My family and I stayed at the Poly about 3 years ago and we found it just fine. My mom and dad had 1 bed, my brother and I shared another and my other brother took the sofa like chair near the tv. It was a little cramped but all we did was sleep for a couple hours so we had nothing to complain about. My family, however, doesnt go to the foodcourt like other familys. My father and I get up around 9am and eat together then bring back the food to the hotel for the rest of my family. We really didnt have a big problem with showering because we are all quick takers.

We have stayed five to a room but I would say if you do stay at the Poly or CR as they have the largest rooms. We packed a single aerobed in a duffel bag and it actually worked out pretty good in a larger room. The rooms have a separate sink area from the toilet and tub so it helps a bit with the bathroom situation.

If everyone gets along real well, I'd give it a try. Considering how much money you would save a little inconvenience is worth it. Also the aerobed can be deflated each morning in about three minutes and shoved out of the way. There is an extra blanket and pillow in the closet.

We've done 5 in one room at: Poly, Dolphin, BC, and PO (w/ trundle). The Poly was the best, room wise. BC and the Dolphin are tolerable. At PO we were on top of each other.

We have stayed as a family of 5 twice in POR with only one bathroom and it was just fine. We loved it and had absolutely no complaints about the room or room size, but we pretty much just sleep and bathe there.

I think it all depends on the the dynamics of your family. Some families are quieter and don't mind shared quarters where as others (and more often than not with older children such as you have) need space just to get away from each other.

My family of 5 did just fine at POR and we were confined to our room for the duration of the hurricane. The only one who got a bit stir crazy was my DH with his ADD

I think you'll be okay, esp since your kids are so young - if they were three teenagers it'd be different =)

If you're staying at a monorail resort, you'll have a larger room than normal and extra space to roam like interior hallways and lobbys, bar, restaurants, pool area, arcade, gift shop, etc so you won't feel as confined as you might in a hotel with exterior hallways aways from the main building.

I'd stay with one while you can =) You can figure out a schedule to have a couple kids take baths at night and one wait in the morning, or all three do their thing at night and you and DH get the bath in the morning while they sit on the balcony and watch the activity outside or watch TV or whatever.

Our family of 5 stayed at the BC and we were fine. We did as someone else mentioned which was showered at different times. We didn't feel cramped at all since we weren't in the room very much. We actually had a good time being all together and going over the day's events.

TRIPLEFIGS - Hi again!! :flower:

I have 3 kids 5, 8, and a 14 yr old. We have always stayed deluxes the 5 of us in one room and it has never been an issue. I usually shower the night before and give the girls a bath before or after me. The guys usually showered in the morning. That plan helped for the bathroom routine.

The CR and Poly rooms are the largest and we really never felt like we were squooshed being together in one room. We really weren't in the room all that much as we are nuts about going to the parks all day. Your kids are little, so that helps, too!! They won't take up much room and will probably pass out quickly at the end of the day. :earboy2:

I would save the $$$$ and just get the one room. Only twice EVER on vacation have I felt the need for more space - at the Swan, and in a hotel in Puerto Rico. I called the front desk, and got connecting rooms!! :earsgirl:

Besides, you will probably LOVE WDW soooo much that you will want to return and that way -with only getting one room - you can get the "second" on your next trip to the "world"! ;)

Happy planning!

Hi again!

We always stay in one deluxe room. There are five of us. Me, DH, 2 dds (7 and 6) and ds (turning 5 this trip). It's never been a problem for us. 6 year old dd loves the day bed and always claims it well in advance. Two queen beds are ample for us. I bathe the kids before we go back to the parks for dinner and I shower at night and DH showers in the morning so we don't have problem there. Believe me the kids are so beat at night they drop like flies so I don't worry about anyone keeping the others up. We love staying at GF but if we had to get two rooms you can be sure we would be at a moderate.

We were five, four adults and a five year old child, and it was a little cramped. Of course, that was in a two bedroom villa! :rotfl: I couldn't imagine what it would have been like in a single room with a single bathroom!

We stayed at the CR, which I believe has the largest rooms. Since your kids are only 5, you will have more than enough room. The day bed is very comfy, not like a cot at all but a regular twin. The bathroom has two seperate rooms. The toilet is has a separate door and there's a mirror and vanity in there. The part with the bath/shower/sink and counter is plenty big. We had a ground floor North Wing room which opens up to a patio. It was nice not to have to take the elevator. We could just push the stroller over to MK.

At Christmas 2003 we stayed at GF Sugar Loaf with 5 of us. Our kids at the time were really adults at 25 and 20, our youngest was 13. DH and I shared a bed, DS (25) and DS (13) shared the other bed and our DD (20) slept on the daybed. The great thing about it was that DH always showers at night, so I would shower first in the AM, DS 13 was next. Then the 3 of us would head down to the concierge lounge while the other 2 got ready. Worked great!

As long as you have a bathroom where the sink is in a seperate room and everyone is considerate of others needs and don't take 30 minute showers, I don't think you will have a problem.

We have stayed at POR and there was 5 of us. Me, DH, and 3 of my boys ages 16, 13 and 11. This July we are doing it again. This time they are 18, 15 and 13. We have no problems whatsoever. We only have 1 bathroom here at home so to us its no big deal.
I guess it all depends on your family dynamics and how the kids (and you) get along.
I always read about people saying you'd be nuts to put 5 in a room, blah, blah, blah, but its no big deal at all!

Go and have fun!!!!

Why not get 2 rooms at Wilderness Lodge, and forget about the monorail, it has a very nice boat to Magic Kingdom.

We just stayed at AKL with 5 in a deluxe room. The room wasn't overly large but it was nice having the balcony, kind of like an extra room. The bathroom was split so the toilet and tub were in one room and the double sink in another. We weren't in our room all that much, either. It wasn't bad.

On our last trip the kids were 11 and 13 at SOG which has two Queens and a couch bed. Both DH and I thought it was a little cramped. I think that will be the last trip we do a single room. I have two SPR's booked for an upcoming Disney cruise and a 2 bedroom condo rented in Williamsburg for the summer. No Disney for us this summer... :sad2: As to your question, with the kids being 5 you should be okay for another few years.....

I think you should be fine with 5 in the room. Especially since your little ones are only 5.

We did it at the GF last year, with our kids who were 5, 7 and 9 at the time. I believe that GF, CR and Poly have the largest rooms. The ceilings are high in the GF also, so the room felt very spacious to me.

Regarding the bathroom, we had no issues in the mornings getting ready. It did seem, however, that whenever we returned from the parks that everyone had to use the bathroom the minute we returned to the room. We solved this by stopping in the "summer house" which was right next to our building and some of us would use the bathroom there before returning to the room. The summer house contains the bathrooms for the pool area.

The kids were so pooped at night that we didn't have any problems with anyone keeping the other ones up.
