How is Disneyland in the Rain

It looks like rain will be affecting our trip (leaving tomorrow)!!

So what happens when it rains? Do the parades get cancelled? Street performers not perform, right? Do any of the rides close? I take it fireworks probably not happen, right? And if they are a passing shower, do the open air rides wait a while before they open again. I imagine Dumbo, Big Thunder, Splash might close, or otherwise those seats will be really wet. How bad is bad?

I am kinda bummed, but hopefully thisll keep the crowds down.

In general, attractions stay open unless there is a safety risk.

Fireworks can go in the rain, but if there is wind or chance of lightning, no fireworks. Again, safety.

Parades.... well, it depends on how rainy it is. Again, think safety. Can the performers safely do their job? If not, no parade/street party.

Characters will often go to inside locations (like Innoventions) when it rains.

Crowds will be less.

Hope this helps,

Hi! I was just at Disneyland in January when there was a ton of rain. By night time the rain had cleared so the parades were as scheduled. As far as rides, Mad Hatters Tea Party was closed. Storybook Land Boats closed after a bit of rain. BTMR closed for a little bit, but only because a portion of the track flooded because of the amount of rain. Splash was still running. I do remember the Matterhorn bobsleds being pretty much like big buckets of water! But it was still running.

Just be prepared for the rain: appropriate water proof shoes, umbrella and poncho.

I know the Alice ride and the teacups routinely close in the rain. Dumbo was open when it was pouring down rain in december. The pooh ride was closed when we were there but not sure if it was because of the rain or if it was just closed anyway.

Just be careful because it can be slippery in places. The gift shop next to small world was SO slippery. We were all wearing shoes with good traction and were still having a hard time. DS slipped and fell several times just walking through that store. I was surprised they kept it open.

I think you will be ok. There is a 60% chance of rain on Saturday but the other days should be beautiful. It has been gorgeous this last week. Also usually when it rains there it is sprinkling or it might rain for an hour then clear up. These January rains were highly unusual.
They are not expecting a bug storm or anything just a little shower, it might really work in your favor! ( that is what I keep telling myself!) we leave saturday. Monday looks beautiful but tuesday they are calling for showers ( although right now only a 30% chance)

Rainy days are my favorite. Probably because it rains so little here, it always gives me a cozy feeling. And what better place to have those cozy feelings than Disneyland! The kids love it because they get to run around in the rain and have fun.

Since, normally, it only showers on and off, you won't get soaked. Just make sure you bring a small towel or chamois to wipe down seats, and a plastic bag to carry it in. The Disneyland ponchos fit nicely over strollers. Rain will keep the locals away so you will have lower crowds - maybe even be able to walk on the rides - which is the best!

Have a great time!

Thank you, OP, for starting this thread! We will be there this weekend too and I was starting to be seriously depressed about the rain. Last time I was in the LAX area it was raining too - same time in February 6 years ago. It doesn't sound like it will be a great deal of rain, hopefully just enough to keep the crowds low...

It poured for our trip in December. Things to bring that helped a lot and were recommended from fellow diser's....

ponchos, rain boots, a few changes of clothes especially shirts and socks brought into the park with you, a few of the super absorbant towels (i bought mine at trader joes but you can buy them at any drugstore, the towels were vitial for us on most rides, the seats are wet and you just wipe the seat down, saves your tush from getting really wet...even indoor rides were wet b/c of people's coats/bags) and finally, a baseball hat under your poncho, (it keeps the rain out of your face and helps the poncho hood stay up.

Enjoy the very uncrowded Disneyland experience! :cool1:

I love going in the rain! The fairies and the princesses were still out and you just walk off an on rides :) We got on space mountain 3 times in a row last time XD

You eventually get wet but its not that bad :) You can always go into the restroom and go under a hand dryer and dry your clothres (or shoes!)

We actually got a funny shot on splash mountain with all our umbrellas covering us x)

Outdoor eating like Carnation Cafe may be closed if it's raining. We got there soon after it stopped and they were only seating people under full-umbrella'd tables, which cut capacity quite a bit. Counter-service places that have a large amount of outdoor tables, you will have trouble finding a seat.

We rode Matterhorn and Autopia in the rain.

A rainy day might be a great day to rent a locker and store (at least) some dry shoes and socks.

Depends on the type of rain.

#1 We are from the northwest and not afraid of a little rain. We always have our rain jackets with hoods.
#2 If it's a desert downpour that can be annoying, but a drizzle like we have up in the northwest most of the year is no big deal to us.
#3 Dress appropriately, in layers, shoes, socks and like I said have real rain jackets with hoods. Peeople always looks so miserable in those trash bag type ponchos, they don't breathe and are bothersome. But aa real anorack or rain jacket and you cann be totallyl comfy.

during the week if it's a drizzle people leave in droves and we just wave goodbye knowing we get the parks to ourselves... little to no ride waits, someitmes staying ON the ride for 2-3 in a row.

It rained tonight and they rumored about cancelling the fireworks. We stuck it out under and umbrella table and ended up iwth pefect seats for the show! After that we were a little wet, but the little one was having so much fun we let him do mor etomorrowland things. Rain doesn't really send us packing!

Days of rain might feel frustrating.
