How is a Disney Trip Like a Writing Desk: A PTR through Wonderland UPDATED: 9/18/10

Tink I was just checking it to be sure that you hadn't received a call from Disney about overbooking at POP. I saw on another thread that they had some kind of computer issue and ended up over-booking 400 rooms or something like that, and were bumping people over the the All Stars. :scared1: I't seemed to be happening to people leaving in the next week or so, but I thought of you anyways. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you that your fine.

I think they should upgrade them to OKW and SSR like they did previously (not due to a computer glitch, but more of a marketing deal, to sell the rooms at rack rate). Come on Disney, give these people a bit of magic for your mistake!!!

I hope this didn't affect you Tink!

It's my understanding that they can't because the resorts are completely booked. I went online to check because I was curious, and sure enough there wasn't an available room for the week I checked. (Sunday to Sunday). That's a pretty big screw up.

OKW & SSR are booked?!?! Wow!

CH 13: Man v. Food

I heart Adam. I could see he and BF getting along famously. :thumbsup2

I think you're making a wise choice in the switch to deluxe dining. And quite honestly, I don't even care about the cost comparison (isn't it nice I can be so free with your money ;)) I just think it's a much better fit for you both, and that you'll enjoy yourself more knowing that it's all taken care of.

That's one of the things I like about having the dining plan in general is knowing that you're all paid up, with the exception of gratuity.

Does the Junky Apple Fairy make visits to my house too? :lmao:

And now I'm going to take a moment to ponder about how weird it is to be presently writing in the past tense about the future.

:scratchin

Ponder complete.

"Let's do the time warp a-gain..."

For those of you who don't know the runwalk, it looks like fast, sophisticated limping.

Picturing this has me ded. :lmao:

That, given the opportunity in real life Simba would eat Nemo, is irrelevant.

You're on a roll with this post, you know that? :lmao:

If we can, we'll squish Simba in.

I'd be careful, I bet he bites back. ;)

We have a 12:00 date for lunch with the Yeti and some fried cheesecake wontons. My hope is that there is no Yakking involved (NO#4's (NOZZUB)).

I can't wait to hear what you both think of Yak and Yeti.

*bury my face in BFs armpit when the carnotaur screams at me for only the umpteenth time

Make sure he puts on deodorant that morning, 'kay?

*search out DeVine, who actually used to work on and off at the renaissance faire in our area

Proof you learn something new every day.

Which is fine for the evening. Currently our dinner reservation at the Yachtsman isn't until 8:00 p.m. I'm hoping to bump it up to 7:00 p.m. But who can say if that will happen. If it's as hard to do that as it is to get into 'Ohana (read: only if you're royalty) then 8:00 p.m. it will be.

Ooo, Yachtsman. If you're so inclined, get a good red to go with your steak. You won't regret it, trust me. :thumbsup2

After the Yachtsman we'll be heading over to do one of the very few things BF requested for this trip: Jellyrolls. Only he didn't call it Jellyrolls. He simply asked me if the World had a dueling piano bar. I think he was both delighted and surprised when I immediately responded, "Yes."

Speaking of the time warp...

UP NEXT: Boo to you and you and you and you...Happy Halloween. (And you're welcome. It's stuck in my head too now.)

O.M.G.

Just seeing the lyrics, which then puts the song in my head, which then makes me think of MNSSHP...

I want to go. :sad1:

Hi! Just finished reading through all the pages so far and it sounds like you guys have a great trip planned! Your DBF sounds a looooot like mine, though he is coming around a little more. Just wanted to say hi :wave2:

I asked my dh if wanted to come back on Sat instead of Sunday and he said no.:scared1: I was shocked he said he didn't mind paying more. I didn't argue with him.

Aahhh, the secret is out. Your DH is drinking the Disney Kool-Aid too! ;)

Woo Hoo for savings!! That is so awesome!!

I like it anytime anyone is giving me my $ back. Even as SW dollars!

Woot!!! That is GREAT news!!!

Absolutely. How 'bout a dancin' nanner for that:

I love saving money!! WOOT WOOT!! I will be flying SW for the first time in January and I can't wait!! Everyone I talk to seems to really like the airline!

I've never heard of anyone being "Meh" about SW. Most people I know, particularly out of the NE, love it. It doesn't have the seatback TV's and perks like that like Jet Blue or some of the major lines, but the fares are almost always the cheapest on the market and they have an EXCELLENT selection of flight times out of our closest airport.

I actually end up doing most of my shoe shopping online. Thank goodness for Zappos and free return shipping. Shopping in shoe stores just became too futile, although I will say that there is more out there than there used to be.

I wish for a you a Fairy Shoemother! :wizard:

And there was much rejoicing in the land.

Like this.

:yay:

Though I maintain it looks more like that guy is doing jumping jacks.

The prices now for my flights are actually MORE than they were when I booked them. Though....I suppose that could be considered savings in a backwards-thinking kinda way, right?!;)

Backwards-thinking = Fuzzy Disney Math :teacher:

I am not a shoe fanatic but I do love my DSW. Rarely walk out of there without a couple of purchases.....

BF currently has opened a restraining order against me on behalf of my wallet and DSW.

And. Your mother. OMG she does look young. But even worse. She's turning 50 this year?!?! Most of my friends are 50+. I'm not 50 quite yet, but I am obviously old enough to be your mother. And I am just a little bit horrified about that. I am always forgetting how old I am. It stinks :sad2:

Oh honey you are SO not old. My mom was young when she had me. And you hardly look like you're in your 40's. This is no puffery. I totally would've guessed your 30's. I'll be 31 this year.

Ooh, me too! I had to run out of there. Otherwise, I would've bought them all.

I keep finding myself think about reasons why I simply HAVE to go back to Hallmark. :rotfl:

I hope that none of our Dis friends end up over there.

OKW & SSR are booked?!?! Wow!

I know! Isn't that crazy? I was amazed that nothing was coming up as available anywhere.

This issue doesn't affect the week we're there. In fact, POP still has availability for our week. That's why I book so late - kids are back in school and parents are less likely to pull them out when they're only a month or so in. I'm pretty sure we'll be fine.

And, it's my experience, that Disney will do everything in their power to make people happy. If they've advised people of the bump and can't bump them UP in the move and you're very unhappy at check-in, my guess is that they'll find some other way to make it worth your while.

When my grandparents went last year for their 50th wedding anniversary, they ran into a few problems, fairly minor, but ones that did ultimately make it a challenge for my grandfather who, unbeknownst to us at the time, was in major need of a hip replacement. They spoke with a manager who, not only resolved the problem, but also credited them with a night or two of their stay.

The most important thing to remember, even with Disney, is that you attract my bees with honey...wait, is that the saying? Or am I trying to attract flies? Why do I want the bugs around? Anywho, if you're patient and honest I think Disney will do right by you.

::steps off soapbox::

CH 13: Man v. Food

I heart Adam. I could see he and BF getting along famously. :thumbsup2

Sometimes I wonder if BF wouldn't leave me for Adam. LOL

Does the Junky Apple Fairy make visits to my house too? :lmao:

Perhaps if you're a good girl between now and 9/25 she will shortly thereafter. ::yes::

"Let's do the time warp a-gain..."

It's just a jump to the left...

Why do I think we've quoted RHPS on one of my threads before???

And why does that not surprise me???

Picturing this has me ded. :lmao:

That's because you know ALL about the run-walk. I imagine you could take the gold for the run-walk were it an Olympic event involving the Pirate Tutorial or meet and greets with a certain Cap'n.
Make sure he puts on deodorant that morning, 'kay?

Done and done. And I help him pick out his scents so at least I'm assured for it to be an enjoyable pit-venture.

O.M.G.

You know I'll be thinking of you.

Hi! Just finished reading through all the pages so far and it sounds like you guys have a great trip planned! Your DBF sounds a looooot like mine, though he is coming around a little more. Just wanted to say hi :wave2:

Hey welcome! Glad to see a new face round these parts (not that there's anything wrong with the "old" faces).

Hey guys, a question (particularly if there is a Moderator around). Someone was trying to post to my thread (not sure if it was this one or my Rum Runner thread) and it wouldn't let them. They're certainly a veteran with 1,000's of posts, aren't on Ignore or Blocked or anything like that...any ideas why they wouldn't be able to post?

Hey guys!

I've been away from the DIS for the past week or so dealing with work stuff, helping BF out with the job situation and, this week, relaxing with BF as we're home on "Staycation".

I do have a lot of stuff to catch you up on and promise to do so in the next day or two.

Thanks for sticking around!

Aw, shucks, Heidi.

"Yes, Virginia, that is a countdown ticker." :lmao:

No fuzzy Disney math? Ah, well, we could mention how those savings are going to pay for more junky apples. . .

How awesome that all of you will be in the World at the same time, and that Kat and Heidi's little ones will be experiencing Disney for the first time! :goodvibes

'K!.....popcorn::

.

Are you eating that popcorn out of a Disney bucket? ;)

Enjoy the time with BF! Gotta soak up these last bits of summer too. :goodvibes

We had fantastic weather for our vacation. We did nothing at all really and I enjoyed every minute of it!

Where's my crystal ball? I see DISMeets in my future...

I do now. :rotfl: How great for you guys!!

Hurry up and win the NY Lottery so you can join us!

No fuzzy Disney math? Ah, well, we could mention how those savings are going to pay for more junky apples. . .

Actually, for now, so as not to ever be in 'danger' of losing the credits, I used it to book my Feb. flights for my 1/2 marathon trip. If BF and I end up vacationing between now and then, I'll spring for his part of the credit.

How awesome that all of you will be in the World at the same time, and that Kat and Heidi's little ones will be experiencing Disney for the first time! :goodvibes

Funny thing too...KittyKat and I were chittychatting the other night and discovered that we'd initially planned all of the same days at the same parks...

It's all about The Force.

:yoda:

Ahhhh...the last night of our staycation. It's bittersweet. It was a restful week, we're now under 30 days until our Disney trip, but...I know I have about 2 months of work to fit into the next 28 days.

That's right, I said 28 days!

Technically I have 27 until my actual vacation begins as I'm off on the Saturday before we leave (BF is not) but let's face it, the trip ticker is the 'be all, end all' in a DISer's world (and World).

Twenty. Eight. Days.

:woohoo:

There's likely only about 4 or 5 updates left for this PTR with all the work I have ahead of me, but I promise to round out our week's plans for you, show you the trip planning binder final product, and keep you up-to-date on the packing process.

Which is, in a word, a PROCESS.

I always have packing angst.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's rewind back a bit.

First, is there anything better than Disney mail? I think not. We received our Magical Express documents and luggage tags early last week and all of our package documents a few days later. Funny, I know how ME works and where I need to go and I know everything included in that package by heart and yet I still read every piece of documentation they sent along as if I were a first-timer. :goodvibes

Second, I'm still stalking an ADR at 'Ohana like a tween stalking Robert Pattinson. And still, no luck. The 'Ohana saga continues...

(Off topic - BF and I went to see 'Vampires Suck' this weekend. Hysterical.)

Third, I wasn't going to get any new clothes for this trip.

Wasn't, key word.

But I did. Old Navy had a lot of summer tops and bottoms on clearance. And I scored a 30% off code AND free shipping. So I placed an order. There are certain things that will definitely be going back since I got them in a couple of sizes, unsure of what would fit best. I also took a chance on a couple of cute tops. If they fit, yay! If not, gotta love free return shipping. I also got an ON red trench for my Carmen Sandiego costume, but my size was sold out online so I had to buy it in-store and without the discount. ARgh.

Fourth, BF got new Croc flops. And they're cutting up his feet. :headache: Not happy. We actually went to a Crocs store and they were all out of the Athens, which is what his old pair is. Not a single pair in the whole store in any color or any size. He decided to take a chance on another style (the ABF), but they come up higher on his foot and rub in an odd place. He insists he's going to try to 'break them in' and I insist that we could just buy the Athens online. Commence battle of wills (a.k.a. who's more stubborn?)...

Finally, an update on the job situation with BF - his interview went really well...
BUT
He wasn't offered a permanent position. :guilty: However, he is #1 on the list of alternates. If one of the people offered a permanent position fails their med exam, drug test, or phyical abilities test or if they just choose not to accept the position (which is possible considering it's a big investment at the onset - you have to pay for all of your gear = $2K+) he's in. In MA, a firefighter position is a civil service position so it's not always the best qualified person getting the job. A lot of the time it depends on whether or not you're a veteran, how well you test, etc. It also used to be a lot about who you know, but thankfully that issue has been eliminated.

So, we've still got our fingers crossed. Please continue to keep us in your thoughts!

Hopefully I can get one more update in this week but don't hold me to it. I'm not quite sure exactly what I'll be walking into tomorrow.

Oh.

Tomorrow.

27 days. ;)
