How "interactive" are the servers at Prime Time??

Hi all!
I would like to make a PS at the Prime Time Cafe, thought the menu looked great and it sounded like a lot of fun. Problem is, when I told DH about the servers, he balked and said no way. He really hates having attention drawn to himself (is pretty shy, too, though won't admit it)

I still want to go! Can someone tell me what it's really like so I can help persuade him? Please?? Pretty please?? With sugar on top???

:D

It really depends on your server, some are more interactive than others. My husband is not real big on having attention drawn to himself, but to tell you the truth, HE LOVES IT! In fact he was disappointed the time we went and didn't have the "usual" interaction! Take him for lunch or early dinner, its not quite as busy so he wouldn't feel so self concious, before you know it he will laughing with you.

Keys to not drawing attention to yourself at Prime Time...
1) Be sure to wash your hands before eating
2) No elbows on the table
3) Eat all your veggies!

And don't forget...
4) Don't talk with your mouth full!

First of all the food was excellent. We all loved our meals. However, the server, Mickey, believe that or not, was very interactive with our table. And watching around us there were alot of other CMs that were interacting with their guests. I don't know if they were particularly wound up that night, because it was our first time there and we haven't had the opportunity to get there a second time yet, but one CM made a guy from another table stand up and sing "I'm a little teapot". He didn't stop coaxing until the guest did it either. I believe it was because the man kept putting his elbows on the table. My husband doesn't like attention either, but he seemed to enjoy and wants to go again. We had a ball, but a word of caution, you just never know when something might happen that the CM may draw attention to your table. AND if they know that you don't want any attention, you just may get more than you bargained for.

If you are going for lunch on a weekday--ask for our favorite Auntie Claire

You'll love her! and one of the adults WILL wear a bib

Can you tell the CM to leave you alone if you don't want to be bothered. One thing I'm concerned about is my DS. He is not a very big eater and coaxing him to eat his veggies is our big thing, however when we go away, we don't push him. He is VERY SENSITIVE and will get really upset if the CM repeated reprimands him to eat them. If I am paying all that money to eat there, it is my decision how much or little I require him to eat.

If there a way of letting the CM know this?

Thanks everyone!
I think I might go ahead and make a PS for lunch. If DH really doesn't like it, he can go to the commissary or something while I have lunch with my parents and kids. Your responses make me want to go even more now! :D

54 more days! :Pinkbounc

I'm one who had to sing "I'm a little teapot"! I ordered a ham sandwich w/chips (I hate veggies and didn't want to get harassed). But the sandwich was the size of Alaska and "Uncle Tim" was not happy that I didn't clean my plate. Not only that - if I messed up the song at my kitchen, we were going to another room and doing it again until I got it right!! However, I did mess up and he didn't make me go to another room!!

I'm not an outgoing person but it wasn't too bad!! And my kids LOVED seeing ME being harassed by an authority figure!!

I think they give you extremely large portions, just so they can pick on you. The portions are huge - try the smores for dessert. Ours was big enough to serve three people! My two teenagers were put off at first my the "rules" and having to say "please" and "may I" - you would think they were raised in a barn. The the server was attentive to that fact and backed off a bit when we didn't finish all of our lunch. I think they take cues very well - if you want to join in on the fun they will go full speed, if you would rather be a spectator they respect that.:D

I know from personal experience that they DO make exceptions about the teasing when you don't finish your food. We were there after Christmas a couple of years ago and I missed the whole special family thing in EPCOT the day before (they were doing the parade then dinner in France) because I was very sick...some kind of stomach thing I picked up. Anyway, the next day I was feeling better, so I went with the family to MGM (although my sister wouldn't let me on anything faster than the GMR), and we went to the 50s PTC for lunch. I somehow missed the chicken noodle soup, so I went with the chicken caesar salad. I did eat a good bit, but having been sick I didn't want to push anything. Our "cousin" (I forget her name but she was great!) started to tease me cause everyone else had finished, but my dad explained that I'd been very sick the day before, so she "consulted with mom" and decided that I deserved a sticker for the effort I had made. I think she even brought me a big peppermint stick for later.
So they are willing to work with you! :)

I think my real mother should work here. She would not have to "act". I can't wait to see her reaction when "Aunt Clara" gives it to her. My kids will be rolling with laughter if they dish it out to Grandma.

I was wavering on this restraurant until I read this posts --- thanks all.

Last Dec, we had Aunt Claire and she was hilarious!!!! We loved her! As we were leaving, we wanted to take a picture with her, and she laid across the counter to be in our picture!!

We'll be back Dec 5 for lunch, and we're definitely asking for Auntie Claire! Besides, we want to see if she has us in her "family photo book"!!

Our server the first trip 2 years ago was great.

This trip - no interaction at all. So we just sat back and enjoyed watching the server at the next table and trying to figure out just how much that party of 7 or 8 people spent. (They had full meals - shakes - appetizers ? - the whole nine yards!)

Our last trip in Nov. 01, we had Cousin Chris. What a hoot. He did the camel train of french fries, as opposed to the car into the garage or train into the station thing. He sang the Aladdin song and stuffed french fries into my 8 y/o dd's mouth. The other 8 y/o sat across from her, horrified, and started shoving the fries into her mouth, just to keep Chris from focusing on her. I had to write an essay on why you should keep your elbows off the table and the two girls were quizzed on what kind of soap they used in the little girls room while washing their hands before dinner!!! Other servers weren't nearly as outgoing as ours was. We will be going back again for an early dinner in Aug. Hope Cousin CHris is still there.

hi: we've been going there at least once per trip since 93. our two favorites, mama barb and mama carrie are no longer there. we have fun with the new ones though. they don't pick on the little ones at all. on our first trip, our server had one of the teens laughing so hard at us 2 old folks that he couldn't videotape well. we've had to sing, dance, do airplanes and stand in corners or hold a penny to the wall with our noses over the years. now our youngest (a teenager) and the older ones are the ones getting into "trouble" as well. we've had the whole dining room laughing quite a bit. if you do have to leave the table to use the restroom, make sure you know what color the soap is! have a great time.

Whatever you do......don't swear!! I swore and our "cousin" called "Dad". I had to stand up in the corner while the entire section shook their finger at me and yelled "bad, bad bad". It really was pretty funny. My friend was on the floor laughing and taking pictures of me standing in the corner. I had to tell everyone I was really sorry and it would never happen again.
I was carrying on with our "cousin", so I think he knew I could take the extra kidding.
We laugh about it even now. Just don't swear!!

A few months ago I had lunch at the Prime Time with a childhood friend. Just 2 grown women who fell right into the "rebellious teenager" mode with our "Mom". These servers are actors and love it when you interact with them. I think it makes their day as much as it does ours. When we got to our table "Mom" pointed out some of our "family" by saying, "O.K., kids, say Hi to your cousins from Tennessee and that's your Aunt & Uncle from England over there." Everyone waved & smiled. When lunch was over, I tried to sneak a little lipstick and of course like all moms, our server had eyes in the back of her head and caught me. She yelled, "Excuse me young lady, no one wants to watch that, you take that to the bathroom!" In my teenage mode, I sassed her back & said, "But Mom, we're going out now to pick up boys, can we use the car?" She let me have it with, "Oh no you're not, just wait till your father gets home!" My friend & I almost fell off our chairs laughing. I definitely had tears streaming down my face! Go ahead & take a chance, you'll have a blast. Also, look for actors planted at the bar. They are usually dressed up like the 1930's or 40's. Start a conversation with them, you'll have a lot of fun.
