How intense in Tower of Terror in Florida now compared to California's?

So I was freaked out to go on Tower of Terror because it a bit scary a few years back. I heard it was much more mellow either now or at the California Adventure location and we went this year and it was fun!

Should I try the one at Hollywood Studios? Can any give any advice or comparations?

I can't remember the exact differences, but I think the one at HS actually takes you through the hotel, whereas the one at CA you remain on the elevator the whole time.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong :)

Here is a quick comparison between ToT at DCA versus Hollywood Studios:

DCA- You do the pre-stuff, you get taken to the top, moved over and dropped....ride is done

Hollywood Studios- You do the pre-stuff, you get taken to the top and then dropped...after that it is random...each ride is different...you could be shot back up a ways and drop a ways only to be shot up yet again...other times you could be shot way back up and way back down...you never now...that what makes it great. Just know there are multiple ups and downs....Not just one like at DL which does not yet have the random sequencing.

I hope that helps!

At DHS there are 23 different versions (how the elevator does the drops) of the ride. DCA only has one version. They are completely random - the computer basically picks which version will be done. Some feel like you are on a trampoline bouncing up and down, some drop down, shoot back to the top and repeat a few more times. Those are my faves - you get great airtime over and over again! :thumbsup2 Like a PP mentioned, a door opens and the elevator actually moves inside of the building before clicking into place and beginning the drops. It is an awesome effect. It is scarier than the one at DCA. If you did not like DCA, you really will not enjoy this one. I would always say to try it once though. :wizard:

*Update*I went to verify the # of drop sequences - turns out that it is in fact totally random, so there is not technically a # of different sequences.

By your description I am very confused. Maybe you are saying what I am about to say but in a different way.

The only difference between the two is the elevator shaft you go up in at DCA is also the shaft you fall in. The elevator car does not derail and move into another shaft at all.

In HS you enter the ride car and it goes up. You stop a few floors up and see the Ghosts beckoning you to follow. The doors close and you go up again. The doors open and the car derails and moves forward through a room with classic Twilight Zone Images throughout the room. The "portal" opens and the ride car enters the elevator shaft which the fall sequence happens in.

Both have a random fall sequences, I believe both have the smells pumped into the elevator shaft (a burning smell). You see lightning during the fall in HS. In DCA, I believe you see (or you used to see) the ghosts during the fall sequence, but the faces were actually the people in the elevator car.

It is not different enough to think you'd not like it I promise.

Not trying to start a fight but where did you get the drop version number from? I currently am a Hollywood Tower Bellhop and can tell you there isn't that many and there is a specific number of sequences not totally random.

PP clarified his statement

I've have ridden both many times (just got back from DL 2 weeks ago) and I think WDW is better and more intense.

What I am saying is that there is a definite number of drop sequences. The only thing that is random is which elevator will get which sequence.

Haven't been on the one in DCA, but as far as I am aware it's identical to Paris', and I have to say I found the Paris/DCA version much more intense (and better imo). DHS' seems to bunny hop around, Paris' feels like very fast and long drops.

My ds10 dragged me on ToT in DCA last year over & over (&over...). I remember it also stops on a floor and you see the "ghost family". You also go up and down a few times. It just doesn't drop once. And each ride seemed like it was different with the random rises and falls. But I could be wrong with that. I agree with the poster who said the drops were long and fast.

I haven't been on the WDW version in about 10 years, so I don't even remember enough about it to compare it.

The drops for both rides were relatively the same for us. Of course we're not TT aficionados, but the main difference to us was that the pre-show at the TT WDW seemed to be much better.

Thanks, I think we will try it once then and see how it goes. My daugther loves the ride and I don't really enjoy tht efreefalling feeling, but I swear yearsago I tried it and thought it was scary and when we went to DCA I didn't think so. I didn't pay much attention to compare and contrast, but the overall feeling was definitely diffferent.

We're long time WDW ToT fans, and when I took my sister on the DCA version, we both got off stunned at how much more intense it was. We were laughing and going "What... just happened?!" LOL

When we were at DCA last summer, the first drop on ToT scared the heck out of us because we assumed we were going to move forward in the elevator before dropping, like you do at DHS. Then we were disappointed because the DHS version has much more story to it with the extra "ride" part. The actual multiple dropping part seemed very similar- on both you drop more than once.
