How I Learned To Hate Florida in September - A Belated Trip Report (Sept 2024 - COMPLETE!)

You really made the best of your trip! Luckily you were there for a longer trip and could make up the park time when you left early.

We've done late August twice and it truly is HOT. The older I get the more I know I won't be able to handle it as well anymore.

I love your pictures! The RnRC one had me cracking up with your DH having a crying kid next to him... :rotfl: The one of everyone passed out is a classic too!

While it was not the best trip I feel like it was one of the most iconic. And we DID have fun...but like when we go in December we ride EVERYTHING and we are in the parks till they close. So this was a real departure from that. The heat just sapped our strength!

Great trip report. Sounds like you had a good plan and adapted as needed due to the heat. It was great to see a detailed trip report for this timeframe.

We're heading to WDW this coming September. Having lived in Orlando in the past, we are super aware of the heat. We called it 90 & 90....90 degrees and 90% humidity. In my itinerary planning we have a break at the hotel (we're staying at Beach Club) midday every day to recharge and prep for the evenings. Your crowd descriptions for this timeframe were a bit surprising. We chose it because of the smaller crowds all the crowd calculators show.

PS......great job with the balloons. Hope your girls realize that they made someone's day when they gave up the ballons.

We did the same! We were telling the kids that most of the rides would be walk on and that...that was not the case. It was PACKED!

We have been every year since 2004 (except 2020) in September. It gets a little more crowded every year. Definitely have lines all the time now. It is never too bad though. I was there around the same dates last September (9/13-26 as I recall).

In terms of weather, it does not seem to bother me as much. Yes, it is hot. Yes, it is humid. But I never find it too horrible.

I'm in love with your Trip Report! It's a shame things have changed, but I hope the Halloween Party was still a blast. Day 5 - September 17th

Probably my favorite day even though, once again, we were SO HOT. This was our Animal Kingdom day and three things I really wanted to do: get on the safari ride to see a giraffe since they're my oldest's favorite, ride Everest with my youngest who was VERY nervous about it, and eat at Nomad Lounge.

And I got to do it all! We did the safari first thing and the line was LONG. Once again, what happened September?! We finally get on and see a bunch of giraffes though, so everyone was happy. We even saw the lions! Then we skipped the trails because SO HOT and headed to Everest where the kids loved it so much we probably rode it 5 times in a row until the crowds caught up to us and the wait time ticked up. At that point we went over and saw the Nemo show (still adorable) and then headed over to do Dinosaur, which we all agreed...used to be way better. It's like every time something breaks they don't bother fixing it. I wondered if it was because they knew it was going away? We sat in the back and it was SO bumpy I actually jammed my hip at one point, which wasn't great considering the walking we'd need to do to get to the front of the park.

Then because I had harped on it so much, my family agreed to go eat at the Nomad Lounge. Which was fine. The food was good but the portions were tiny and expensive. I did like the look of it though!

We debated trying to do anything in Pandora land and I gave my usual speech about how much I hate it, so everyone agreed it was too hot to do anything but go back to the hotel since we had a Halloween party to get to!!!!!! We were going as Sleeping Beauty and the three fairies.

We made sure to get all dressed up and head over so we could get in right at 4 pm. We did stop to take pictures in the Grand Floridian lounge and I have to say, we were a hit all night! People kept running up to us and taking pictures. My husband got LOADS of compliments all night and when I posted a picture to a Disney facebook group it got over 14,000 likes!

We had an absolute great time but it was, even at night, ridiculously hot. And my costume's skirt was hugely poofy. We got a ton of candy, rode everything we could ever want to ride, and then when sitting on a bench for a breather while my youngest and her dad used the bathroom, my oldest fell asleep. So even though it was only like 11, I called it. And then I got the most iconic picture of our trip that ended up on our Christmas cards and will probably end up in their yearbook and wedding albums:

There's just no tired like Disney tired for Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather!
What a great picture! A family “keepsake”

It's my favorite book series from when I was a kid! I wish there was more merch from the movie even though...it wasn't really anything like the books!

Enjoyed your trip report! We are going in September this year! I always split the day up, head back to the resort for a swim!

Loved your Trip report! The girls are so cute!!

We've been at Disney an insane amount of trips. Many in September (we were even there in Hurricane Ian at BWV). We were there your same week. My adult daughter who I travel with is NEVER EVER hot. Never puts on air conditioning in her condo. SHE was dripping wet. Shockingly dripping wet. I was also plus starting to get dizzy. Had to keep popping into air conditioning.

Then again, we are now snowbirds. This January & Feb we were freezing. Several days it was warmer in our usual frozen tundra Midwest than Cocoa Beach/Disney.

Again, thanks for your very enjoyable report.

I think that week was just more insane because a couple days later the hurricane hit like two days after we left, which was annoying because it's my bucket list to be at Disney during a hurricane! But that just amped the humidity up to 11.

I really have never experienced anything like it!
