We don't have landlines anymore. Just 3 smartphones on ATT's mobile share plan. 1 GB of data that we share (we don't need much because of wifi) and unlimited talk and text. Our bill has been $175 a month for quite some time.

Well, I got a strange text today from ATT asking me if I was enjoying my "new smartphone". We all have old iPhone 4's so I was concerned that there was some sort of fraudulent line on my account. I don't get on the website often, so I thought I should log in and check to make sure. Thankfully, there was nothing amiss on my account but I did stumble across the different plan options for our devices. Apparently, we could get 2 GB of data with the unlimited text and talk for just $115 a month,

Say what???

Yeah, I didn't need to renew or upgrade or anything. Just change my mobile share plan to a different (better) one and I just freed up $60 a month on our phone bill!

So, it pays to log in from time to time and see what your options are. I never would have done so had I not gotten that text! :)

Be careful.. When they offered the $160 family deal ($15/line or something like that) if you upgraded your device your bill would go up.. I dont remember exactly but make sure you ask what the price would be if you upgrade your devices (I would save but when I upgrade I would be paying more than I am now)

Well.. When our contracts are up, we are switching providers. I promised Hubs we would go to Verizon next January.. But I am glad to save the $ in the meantime!

It doesn't matter to the op since they are switching, but for everyone else be aware that this pricing only applies if you pay full price for all future upgrades. With the $600-800 for a new phones when we need them x3 three lines it didn't end up saving us anything.

OMG, I am on with AT&T now!

I did not see your thread here before calling At&t.

I am going to Montreal on Friday and I called At&t about voice, data and texting plans while away.

The tech said I can drop your bill from $314 to $195 right now.
(My hubby's company gives him $100.00 a month to use his own iphone for business).

NEW BILL = $95.00!!! :yay: :yay: :yay:

I have 5 iphones and 2 iPads on the plan.

DONE. ALL SET. Starts NOW.

YEAH!!!

I was available for an upgrade (we chose not to since I'm not interested in renewing a contract) and it said that I could still upgrade at a discounted price on phones. Now, we aren't the type to care about having the newest most expensive $800 phones and I wouldn't pay that much for one ever.. But I know that some people are. So, it does pay to check the fine print (which I did and this worked best for us) but it might not work for everyone.

The point is, I didn't even realize that the option to lower my monthly payment was THERE.. so it doesn't hurt to periodically call or go online and see what your options are. :)

Wow. I have 5 lines with unlimited talk, text and data, and a tablet with data and I pay $165 with tmobile. Now our data does slow when we go over 1gb, but we never do because of wifi. No contract either..

When you get a new phone your bill will go up $40

At first it seemed like a deal
4 lines for 145 plus 15 per phone so 205. Saves us 30 per month
But start upgrading phoned and it soars up
145 plus 160 and we would be at 305 per month

It goes up $25. $15 that you pay now plus $25 for the upgrade equals $40.

Just be careful. I changed my plan with Verizon years ago, I needed less minutes. I was on a month to month at the time. I did not get a new phone or anything. Then about 6 weeks later, I decided to switch carriers.

Verizon informed me, when I said I was leaving them, that by simply asking for less minutes, I committed to 2 more years with them. I was furious, because I was not told this. I had to pay something like $250 to get out of it. I am still mad, many years later.:headache:

Yea, you can get the discounted upgrade, through their "upgrade every year" program that charges you $25 monthly per phone. there is no way to get the pricing you are talking about without either paying full price for upgrades up front or joining the program.

Well, I went back and looked at my account to make sure there wasn't something I had missed. The contract end date has not changed at all and I am still eligible for a discounted upgrade.

Regardless, I do encourage people to look into it IF it is something that will work for them. I saved $60 a month and it works for us. That is a significant amount of money for us and every bit helps. I posted because I thought it might help someone else. It doesn't work for your family and that is fine.. I am glad that you posted a "warning" so that people will make sure to read the fine print.

I went through this nonsense with Sprint a few years. The idea of owning your own phone and paying month to month means you have no contract. The service reps kept telling me when I added another phone on the account I locked in for another two years. I was furious and swore off cell phone plans. I was so pissed I said to just close my account and I'd pay for the un-used months, and that is when they now said I owed for two years on two lines. After many calls and total frustration, I called back in and actually got somebody with some brains, and she told me I was right. She said their company just merged with Nextel at the time and many new workers didn't know what they were talking about. She said I'd be fine through the end if the month and she'd cancel my account after that. I then went to pre-paid and between Virgin and Straight Talk you can't beat the pricing and can walk away at any time. Bottom line, between cellphone and satellite carriers these people will screw you every step of the way.

Last time I modified my plan with Verizon, it didn't change my contract status. In the past it did. Any changes would put you back at day 1 of a 2 year agreement. That was not the case recently, at least in my experience. But you do need to be careful.
