I'm currently planning my second trip to Disney World and am trying to figure out the best way to get the best rate. My mind is slightly boggled by all this talk of codes and post cards and whatnot, so I was wondering if you could share some personal experiences of how you've gotten the best rate?

I'm Canadian, so I'm considering using the CAA discount, but I've also heard stories of people getting discounts just by calling the resort and asking them if they have any special rates for a specific room. Is CAA the best way to go about it? I'm hoping if I can find a good enough rate, we'll be able to upgrade from a Moderate to a Deluxe.

Thanks so much!!:yay:

Well, unless you get a code (via e-mail or snail mail) from Disney, CAA would be your best bet for a room-only discount.

If you're booking a full vacation, and you were planning on purchasing the dining package, you can save yourself a ton of money if you book during one of the free dinining promotions Disney sometimes offers. This may or may not materialize this year and there are a number of threads just on that one topic.

People are reporting they call Disney CRO (1-407-W-Disney) and asking if a PIN number is attached to their name (for a discount). That has never worked for me personally, but sounds like it works for a lot of people. People also say that if you sign up to receive a free Disney Vacation Planning DVD on the official disney website that you may receive a discount offer.

Another option for a discount is to plan your trip accordingly so you can take another trip before the end of the 365-day period. Like if you go on July 30 this year, then plan a trip for July 20 next year -- then you can buy annual passes and get a room discount that way (not sure how AP discounts will work in 2008 with the new rate structure, but in the past years there have been AP discounts on rooms for value and regular seasons, sometimes peak seasons but not all the time).

One way of getting a pin code is to order the vacation planning DVD. I got the 20% off code for room rates via email the same day I got the DVD.
