We're planning our first trip back to Disneyland since December 2019. As you can see from my signature, we've been many times and had our routine down. I feel at a loss now since many things have changed that affect our touring style such as parkhopping and Genie+. And now my kids are 3 year older too.

Old way: 5 day parkhoppers with maxpass. We toured very leisurely, rolled into the parks early to mid morning, hopped 2-3 times a day, did a couple half days, usually called it a night between 9-10 pm unless there was a show we stayed for. I was very good a maximizing maxpass and we rode things multiple times. We don't stand in lines longer than 20 minutes.

If I'm limited to 1 ride a day on genie+, will we run out of things to do? Maybe we only need 3 park days now?

I did my first Genie+ trip in January after years of using the free paper Fastpass. I did my usual 3 day 1 park ticket and I didn't find I ran out of things to do. Yes I had to adjust my normal park tour plan, and I missed getting the multiple fastpasses to reride my favorites but for me the magic was still there.

Did you only ride a ride when you had fastpass? You can still ride more than once per day, just not more than once via LL,(fastpass), just standby. There are some threads on here, where people have gotten extra LL by booking attractions that go down for an extra pass to reride a favorite or doing single rider

Reading everyone's experiences to maximize our time for my August trip. Love getting tips from frequent visitors

We ran out of things to do on both days. We used LL for everything. We didn’t ride all the fantasyland rides (my kids aren’t really interested in Dumbo, Casey Jr). There were really no real daytime shows/parades. We could have re-ridden headliners but the kids didn’t want to stand in line an hour plus in the heat.

We really did finish at CA Adventire at 3:30 on Monday and headed to hotel to swim.

yes, usually only ride with fastpasses unless it's walk on. We've been on everything a thousand times so no one wants to wait that long.

We like to do all the shows too, so maybe that will fill some of the time, but I'm thinking we don't need as many days. Maybe we'll try universal for a day since it's only a little more than the price difference of the extra days.

After reading these comments I feel I should ask are all the rides open, obviously except those closed for usual refurbishment. Just asking because of the comments about running out of things to do.

All the rides are open except the ones closed for refurbishment. Also rides do go down occasionally during the day. The downtime can be short or multiple hours.

It was not as easy this time to re-ride ones we used to Maxpass multiple times. That said, we made it work in other ways like rope dropping those rides or doing them before 10am and being strategic about when do book the LL. Or we would luck into some Multipass selections and use those for ones where the LL window was too far out. We took breaks around 2pm each day so I would watch the LL windows as we were at the hotel and book for our return to the parks around 5pm.

I don't complain much about how things went on our trip post Covid. We got everything done we wanted to accomplish with Genie+ and it's a wholly unfair system compared to Maxpass+paper FP that makes others who opt to not spend the money or can't afford have to endure longer standby waits.

Things are a bit more stressful for me while COVID is still around. I’ve been wearing N95 masks from the start and still continue to when in public. I triple think my trips a lot more and book more refundable travel (flights, hotels, $$$).

I usually fly first class (not terribly fancy since it’s just from WA to CA) and now I’ll skip the meal service to keep my mask on and usually just one drink or even less to keep the mask on. Before I didn’t go overboard, but I certainly enjoyed the drink service and stuff.

I try to book outdoor dining when possible. Thankfully Disney is pretty good about lots of outside options, but places like Oga’s and Blue Bayou make me worry a little. I’m certainly one of those people that have the mask back on between courses and up until food is brought out to the table.

I keep the mask on outside and inside, it makes the days a bit long and I’m even more grateful for a cool late October day.

Probably the biggest and one that makes me depressed the most is I seriously seriously second guess inviting a friend to go with me, especially if it’s someone out of town/state that would be sharing a hotel room with me. As a solo traveler that would love to experience it with someone else, that’s seriously a downer for me.

I’m also going to admit that this year I might also feel like I stand out a little if there are very few people masking, especially outdoors. I know masks are a very touchy subject for some, even to the point of if *others* have them on. I don’t want to look “crazy” or like I’m sick but wanted to come anyway or something.

While I’m young(ish) (mid thirties) and boosted, so likely not to die from COVID, I’m still hyper concerned about it since my mother is recovering from major leukemia treatments (bone marrow stem cell transplant) and likely will be immunocompromised for at least six more months to a year. I make sure I don’t bring ANYTHING (common cold etc) back to her.

We also mask everywhere indoors and are currently skipping indoor dining. We felt comfortable eating at Blue Bayou last June but things were much different back then. For our trip next month we might even mask in outdoor lines where you are crammed next to people, depending on our comfort level. Even though not many people wear masks indoors or outdoors, I don’t think anyone will care what you’re doing. At least that is what it was like last summer.

We've been twice now post COVID, or at the tail end of COVID last year. One impromptu trip in Aug and one long planned trip in October. August was two and a half days in park, October was a full five. Full five days is too much for us now. This was pre-genie and no entertainment, but the lines and crowds during Halloween just wasn't that fun. We are shooting for three full days next trip, Wed-Fr when the crowds seem to be lower now. Going to hit other areas around Anaheim for a couple other days.

Yep. Last fall was fine. I was personally a little surprised how few people at Disney had masks on, but I need to keep reminding myself that the crowds make up a population of people from all over, not just CA. In all I would guess about 50% had them on outside so I blended right in.

I felt ok at Blue Bayou last October because the tables were still spaced out pretty far and staff of course had masks on. I’ll be curious how the table spacing is now… it might be the same just because lack of staff to work more tables. Either way, I now will request a table off the to side with worse views or something compared to one in the midst of stuff.

Absolutely respectful of everyone’s individual choices, my N95 affords me enough protection that even if I was the only one with one on, as long as I was wearing it correctly I would feel safe. So I’m not trying to make any statements, just there literally is a lot of new concerns and logistics in my mind now during the travels.

(I will say that in the last 2.5+ years I haven’t even had a day of the sniffles or anything which is actually incredibly nice… so little benefits when you can find them 🤣)

Andrew, I do not think you are being too cautious! I too wear a mask everywhere, I have to for work since I work in a hospital. If someone doesn't like that I wear a mask, I just shrug and say it is my choice! Flying first class is so fun, I try to do it as much as possible! BTW hi from another Washingtonian!

WA!

I’m from the east side (Tri Cities area), but currently have been in Seattle since April and will be until August (caregiver for my mom’s treatment). I have been wildly impressed with every medical worker I’ve experienced this last year (a LOT) from all the different facilities we’ve been in. I’m absolutely not minimizing burn out or concerns over that, but at least from our patient perspective, everyone has been incredibly caring, friendly, and dedicated!

We also mask EVERYWHERE, unless we're eating/drinking. Otherwise, it's mask up. No one has said anything to us about it. From what I can tell, people let people do what makes them comfortable.

So feel free to do you!

I am so glad you have had a good experience from the medical staff, not always the case sometimes! But overworking, worry etc will do that! I am north of Seattle, don't get down there much, too many things changing there! I hope your mom is doing ok!

I just got back from DLR and I was masked in queues and anywhere indoors. I was in the definite minority but no one cared. The first 5 days were spent in San Diego and there was little to no masking going on there. Just returned back to Virginia today and there's a lot more people masking here....but we do not have all the outdoor, fresh air options that California has. It was really nice that every restaurant I went to had significant outdoor options. We just don't get there here in Virginia.

No changes whatsoever to my touring, except when Disney parks mandates a masking. I attend every available attraction / show / event that is open and that I want to attend. Enjoy Disney Parks! They can be loads of fun.

Each time we go, we do things a bit different because my kid is getting older. Different rides and different experiences. With the new Genie+ system, I'm actually looking more at the "non-ride" activities, incase it doesn't work out well for us. Our next trip, while I expect to do several rides, I thought we could check out Tom Sawyer Island, the Great Moment with Mr. Lincoln (my daughter did a school project on him, so is now excited to see it), redwood creek challenge area, more shopping in the small specialty shops. Hopefully some new shows are up too (Lion King, updated PhilharMagic).

We also wear masks everywhere, outside and inside. Not a big deal at all at DLR.
