How hard is it to get a TV on Black Friday?

It is not just Wal-Mart that does this. Many stores do. Which is why I refuse to buy a TV any other place besides Costco from now on. They extend the manufacturer's warranty on laptops and TV to 2 years from date of purchase for free. No bogus sales pitch for some expensive insurance.

I agree. One of the things you give up for that great price is service help. I understand Costco is amazing with back stuff they sell. They should be since they charge you to be a member.

Here is my experience. Last black Friday I got a 50 inch tv from target, I got there around noon. At target they have you wait outside, about two hours before they opened an employee came around asking everyone what they were waiting for and handed out tickets for the items that had them. When the doors opened I went to the spot that had the tvs handed my ticket and got the tv. My target tv works great! In 2012 I got a 32 inch tv from Walmart, I got there about 6 hours early. At Walmart they let you in and you just have to find the balloon that marks what you are looking for. When the time came for the sale to start they hand you the tv and off you go. That tv still works wonderfully. This year I am thinking about going for the 40 inch at target. People will say that the tvs on black Friday aren't worth it, but I think they work great and everyone who sees our tvs cant believe how little we pay for them since they work so nicely.

Those BF only TVs are really hit or miss. Some people get a good unit at a good price that functions well and lasts, but it seems an equal number of people get what turns out to be a piece of junk after a few weeks.

About 15 years ago we got some low end brand 27" TV (not flat screen) on Black Friday at Walmart. (Not 6am when they opened back then, but later in the day). It worked OK for about a week. When we returned it, the lady at CS said they were getting a lot of returns on this particular model.

That was the end of BF TVs for me. I'd rather buy at another time and get a higher quality product.

I bought a TV from Walmart ONLINE last year . . . paid for it online, but didn't pick it up until the next week. It was really the best of both worlds: I got the good price (sorry, can't remember details now) but didn't have to wait in line.

Picking it up was super easy: I went in after work, and the greeter directed me to the layaway area. Only one person was ahead of me. I showed my ID, and within five minute I was lugging it out to my car.

I gave it to my college daughter as a Christmas present, and she was thrilled with it.

just this weekend I 'needed' a tv/dvd combo for our cabin in the woods. I found an RCA 32" for $239 at walmart.com-the best price i have found for it. AND it's worth quite a bit of money to me not to have to fight crowds and participating in the insanith of Black Friday is against my morals.

I feel like a got a good deal with a minimum of hassle. Win/win to me.

Thanks for all the first-hand info! I won't go out of my way to get a tv (no standing in line at 3am) but I will be at a few stores and if they happen to have something similar to what we're looking for, but cheaper, I'll grab it.

Samsung has some good "Black Friday" deals on line. Most of them are good the week of Thanksgiving.
