How hard is it to get a taxi within WDW?

Forgive me if this is a stupid question. How hard is it to get a taxi within Disney World? What if you are already at the Magic Kingdom and want to take a taxi to MGM? Is there a taxi stand, or would you have to make a phone call?

Another question: what is the situation with Florida and car seats? I have a 3-year-old. If we take a taxi, what's the law regarding car seats? How about on the Disney buses between parks: are there any kind of seat belts whatsoever?

I could just rent a car, but we are staying at the GF, and I do like the idea of taking the monorail to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot, I was thinking we might do one of those car services from the airport. I'm just wondering about how we should handle transport to the other parks.

Thanks in advance for any info.

If you are staying @ GF you automatically can use ME. The service picks you up at the airport and takes you directly to the hotel for free. I don't think you need to purchase a package, I believe any guest of a Disney resort has this benefit. I have also seen taxis at the resort, but don't recall any at the park (though it seems that there would be some) if any info. I've posted is incorrect, let me know, this is my understanding

For MK, the taxis are waiting at the TTC. The other parks the taxis are in the parking lot near the resort bus loading areas.

I would just take disney transport from park to park, unless you don't want to wait or if you don't like mass transit.

I also would recomment ME as it is free. They will handle your luggage for you..

Have a good trip!

I agree that you should look into the Disney Magical Express to/from the airport to your resort. To get to the parks other than the MK you can take a Disney bus directly to that park from your resort.
As noted, there are no taxis (or any vehicles other than Disney buses) outside the MK. You can go to the TTC for one but it's easier from your resort or any MK resort. Most Disney resorts have taxis waiting outside their main entrance. If one is not available a Cast Member will get one for you right away.

I don't understand. Where is the TTC in relation to MK? It seems strange that you cannot pick up a taxi right at MK.

Only WDW buses can pick up and drop off directly in front of the MK.

Rather than taking the monorail or ferry all the way to the TTC, it can be quicker to either take the monorail or walk to the Contemporary and catch a cab from there.

FYI--a cab from the TTC or Contemporary to MGM is going to cost you close to $20 with tip.

Ok. I am starting to get it. However, I am a "visual" person. Seeing where it is will help me solidify this in my mind. Is there a map anywhere that shows where the TTC is?

Thanks!

The TTC is across seven seas lagoon from the MK. It is next to the parking area for all car parking. The TTC also has the Lynx bus, busses to other parks, and taxis. The only vehicles allowed to drive all the way up to MK are the Disney buses.

As stated above, you could go over to the Contemporary (5 min walk or 1 stop monorail ride) and then grab a cab there.

Picture a clock dial. The center of the dial is a large lake--about a half mile across give or take. The monorail runs around the lake.

At 12 is the TTC. At 9 is the Contemporary. The MK is at 6. The Polynesian is at 2 and the GF is at 4.

Not perfect, but it will give you an idea.

Anyone have any ideas re: the car seat? OUr Ds will be 4 and we are probably goin gto take a taxi to Gatorland 1 day - we won't have a car seat with us so should we request one from the cab - can that be done???

Yes, have the valet tell the dispatcher you need a cab with a car seat. You do realize that Gatorland is a VERY expensive cab ride from WDW, right?

I think so - I posted earlier about cab vs. rent and you were nice enough to respond. I figure about $30 each way. A 1 day car rental is probably similar (bit less) but I figure the hassle of getting the car, and driving to the place it is worth it to cab it.

As a reminder, the only cab company licensed to solicit on-property is Checker Cab.

Other cab companies may have cars sitting near the park entrances, but they aren't supposed to do that. (Also beware of confusingly similar names ... I've seen Check-her Cab, Check-In Cab, Checks Mix Cab, all painted in the same shade of yellow as the Checker Cabs)
