I got in the hot seat on our trip to WDW last month, and made it to the 32,000 point level before we ran out of time...I truly believe that had I been the first person in the hotseat that day, DH and I would be planning a Disney cruise right now...The guy in there before I did took the whole time to answer his questions, mulling them over. I was on a mission, and was firing answers back at the lady as soon as she asked me. :rotfl: Not tooting my own horn, but I'm absolutely full of useless knowledge and trivia...I remember things I read when I was 7. I'm truly the Cliff Clavin of the nursing world, and am quite disappointed with the hat, pins, lanyard, and shirt. A cruise, darn it! I want a cruise!!

Honestly, the questions weren't really that challenging up to that point, and I still had two lifelines left. Just looking for advice and tips for our next trip, I am GOING to get that cruise one day!

I woman got up to 250,000 while I was there and I remember a couple of the later questions being

'what make of car in latin means 'I roll'?

and something about which of Oprah Winfreys book club books was based on her true life story? It was definetly something about her book club. One thing I did notice was a lot of the questions were about American things and being from the UK we had no chance! Not sure if that was a general thing or if we were just unlucky, but honestly half the questions were about things we'd never even heard of!

We never saw anyone get that high. People were bombing out at the 1000 point level - a little pathetic. I was just upset because I was second in the 'fastest finger' and REALLY wanted to be up there because I think I would have done OK as well - I am a certified Jeopardy junkie.

PS - I would have been upset if I ran out of time - esp. with 2 lifelines remaining. I wish they could just let you go until you are finished - seems the fair thing to do. It's not like the shows are back to back, at least they weren't when we were there.

I consider myself a trivia junkie, but I am so afraid I'd get up there, have a brain fart & freeze up.

I love WWTBAM-Play It! DH and I have both been in the hot seat, but I think I'm a better player than he is (shhhh...don't tell him that!) I got to $125,000 the last time, but got knocked out by a James Bond question. I used Phone A Complete stranger because I had an idea but wasn't sure. Unfortunately, my friendly stranger had the same idea I did, so it didn't pan out.

I'd have been ticked if I got kicked out because time ran out. I deliberately tried to play a fast game so that if I didn't make the cut, another person would be able to play.

Don't knock that lanyard and polo shirt though, a lot of people never make it that far. I'm proud of my shirt. :)

I am actually auditioning for the real Millionaire next week, so I'm definitely hoping my luck holds. :)

I was 2nd one time, but that's the closest I've gotten to the Hot Seat (higer than DM, and she's an teacher hehe ;) ) I didn't even think about what would happen if you ran out of time and weren't finished, that somehow doesn't seem fair to me, I can only imagine if you were at 250,000 and then that buzzer sounded.... :earseek:

When we were there a lady got to the last question which was who was the oldest president. It was Teddy Roosevelt but she guessed Polk or something like that. As soon as she said it the whole audience moaned.

I'm confused...I thought if time ran out they let you be in the hot seat on the next show...that is how they used to do it --didn't they?

I think they used to do it that way, I vaguelly remember when I was there in 2001 that they asked someone if they could come back for the next show :confused3

do you remember the question? I am a james bond junkie :rotfl:

when I was in the hot seat, my 64K question was "What German word is the word "Pez" derived from?"
I got it wrong, and I had a lifeline left (phone a stranger), I choked under pressure, and didn't realize until afterwards that even if the stranger was useless, it would have given me extra time...
oh well, more incentive to get in next time!

(P.S. - in case your interested...the answer is Peppermint)

I love WWTBAM and have been in the hot seat many times and once you pass the 32,000 point plateau, the questions really get difficult.

In general....
0-1000: Easy, general trivia questions that are mostly obvious
2000-32,000: General Trivia Questions with moderate difficulty
32,000-125,000: Specific trivia with high difficulty
250,000 - 1,000,000: Extremely difficult trivia

I do, sadly. The question was, what James Bond movie was not based on a book.

I forget all the choices, I know Goldeneye was one, as well as A View To A Kill and License to Kill. I was torn between Goldeneye and License to Kill, and my lifeline also leaned towards Goldeneye, which was wrong.

I've actually never seen a James Bond movie in my life, so, hey, it didn't work out for me.

I've been there when people have gotten towards the top and they are really hard questions. One was what year did the Easy Bake Oven come out. And then all of the options were in one year of each other. I think that was the 500,000 answer. Then the lady guessed it right and still had "Phone a Stranger" left for her Cruise Winning question. It was some question about a poet and she didn't know the answer. She kept declining to phone a stranger and insisted on walking away. I think she was just really nervous and not thinking straight. Her family probably wanted to strangle her when she got back up there :) You never know, someone might have been a poetry junkie on the other end!

I was there when the lovely ladysoleil was in the Hot Seat, so allow me to assist. The question was "What was the first James Bond movie that didn't take its name from the title of one of the novels?". That may not be the exact wording, but you get the idea. Both "License To Kill" and "Goldeneye" fit the bill, but since they asked for the first one it would be "Licence To Kill".
I think "For Your Eyes Only" was the other option.

LOL. Rob, I'm still trying to repress that memory. ;) It's going to take some severe therapy, or maybe winning a cruise on my January trip. That would take the sting out of that loss. ;)

Back in October of 2002 I made it up to the 250,000 question, but I played over the course of two shows. My questions were really obscure, but they were mostly about the arts...which is right up my alley! I was asked after time ran out of the first show if I could stay around and continue the game. We actually had a PS, but I stayed to try to win a trip to NYC to see the real WWTBAM. That's what the prize was then!

My DH got into the hotseat the first of this month...he didn't fair as well as I. I didn't know you couldn't continue over the course of two shows now! Wow, he would have been really disappointed if he could not have continued! :confused3

Given how high the rates they released for the 2007 cruises are, I bet they make the questions even harder! :rotfl:

I've made it to the hot seat a handfull of times but never won anything more than the polo/hat...questions past 32,000 get pretty obscure, I'm trying to recall some from my past experiences...there were questions like "What company produced the [random brand name] handbag?" and "What author coined the term [long obscure word]?" And for each of these, not only did I have no clue on the answers, but I never even heard of ANY of the choices! :confused3 :earsboy:
