This is my big question before i decide? I am trying to budget as we have 5 quests, so it is between this and ASMU suites. However, i heard the walk to the busing is long or you need to wait for internal shuttle. My little ones get tired an impatient(don't they all!) so i wonder how long the shuttle takes and how often, and if we walk is it far walk? I don't want to have to do alot of waiting at night in dark.:confused3

You may want to include in your cabin reservation a request for a cabin close to the bus stop. That way, they may try to assign you a cabin near the entrance of the cabin "loop" (a series of cabins on an oval shaped road), which for you would be better than being at the back of the loop where you would have to walk to the entrance of the loop to get to the bus stop.

so i assume it will be a long walk if i want to go from my cabin all the way to the park transportation area or boat? :confused3

how often does the bus come from the cabins stop, is it frequently?

Busses run every 20 min or less depending on the time of day I don't think I have waited more than 10 min. for a bus. You may want to consider renting a golf cart. I think they run about $40.00 per day. Life at the Fort can be a slower pace than most people are used to but it's a great resort.

1. There are two places in the campground to catch buses that travel outside the campground: The Settlement bus stop-this is where you can catch a bus to AK, Epcot, the waterparks, and Downtown Disney. Depending on what cabin loop you get, it's probably about 1/3 of a mile from the cabins to the Settlement bus stop. The other external bus stop is the Outpost. This is where you catch the bus to Disney/MGM Studios. It is probably about 2/3 of a mile from the cabin loops.

2. The internal buses come around quite frequently. I doubt that you would ever have to wait more than 15-20 minutes for one (it's all a matter of timing). If you are going to the MK, you can exit at the Outpost, and walk to the dock (just a short stroll), and take the boat to the MK.

The bus transportation at FW is really not any slower than at the All Stars. In fact, depending on where your room is located, I would say that you could have a longer walk to a bus stop at the All Stars than you would from your cabin. The bus stops are well lighted and covered. There are benches to sit on while you are waiting. I would not worry one bit about waiting in the dark.

Bottom line-buses should not be an issue when deciding between a cabin and a family suite.

The internal buses are very frequent, IMHO. And actually, not much is a far walk. The meadows is a close walk to the Settlement, and actually the parking lot is just over a 20 minute walk for me to the Settlement. I can't imagine it's more than 5 minutes to any transporation from any cabin or campsite.

Here is a link to a map of FW: http://home.hiwaay.net/~jlspence/fwmapnew.jpg

I have 3 FW walks on my site (continuing ones). I don't consider FW all that large a place, it can take longer to walk to transportation at many other resorts.

I think actually your bus stops are opposite. The Settlement has the MGM and you ride the Outpost Bus to go to all others. Hopefully that's the way I read it.

Whoops! My bad! You are absolutely right!

I got the names confused. The Settlement is down by Pioneer Hall, and the Outpost is up near the entrance.

Also, my $.02 about walking, it is true that it is not too far to walk anywhere in FW, but when my kids were younger, there was no way that I could have gotten them to walk that far. Also, after a long day at the parks, I don't think anyone would look forward to a long walk back to a cabin. Thankfully, the bus transportation makes the walk optional.

Sorry for the confusion!

I was hoping I read it right and didn't look goofy making that quote. If at all possible I suggest bringing bikes because it's a nice ride to enjoy.

TCD - I was just showing how short it is from the parking lot to the main area, that the walk to transportion is MUCH shorter. I think people get so overwhelmed with the size of FW, when it really isn't that large at all.

No internal bus transporation should be more than 5 minutes from where anyone is staying. The buses internally come often. It's the ones to the parks and DD that can take a while, just like staying at any other resort. I totally am not suggesting that anyone wants to walk a half hour after they just spent 8 hours at a park! But they can get the bus back to FW, and then get one of the internal buses and be within a few minutes of where they are staying. I think some of the cabins are actually near the front of the resort, near the parking area too.
