I just found out the next year conference i have to go to is in San Francisco. Last year was in San Diego so i made a trip up to Annaheim to visit Disney Land. How far away is San Francisco? Can you get an amtrak train from there?

It's pretty far, about a 7-8 hour drive from Anaheim. San Francisco is in Northern California, where DL is in Southern.

We live in the San Francisco area--and Jen is right--it takes about 7 hours of steady driving to get from here to there. Of course you can take Amtrak--but that would take even longer. Amtrak doesn't technically stop in San Francisco, but instead in Okaland across the bay.

We often fly to Los Angeles (a one hour flight) to go to Disneyland or see the in-laws (they all live around there).

San Diego is still "southern Cali" so it only takes a few hours (at most) to drive from there to Disneyland.

7-8 hours. I live 45 min. from SF and it takes us about 6 hrs to drive to Anaheim. Never done Amtrak so I can't help you. But I do know where there are stations, there is one about a block from DBF's place of employment in Berkeley. :)

When we drive to Disneyland, we stop at my parent's house in San Francisco to visit for a day or two. The distance from their house to DL is 414 miles.

I've taken Amtrak from SF. There's a ticket station near the Ferry Building in downtown. After checking in, you board an Amtrak bus to take you to the train station in Oakland. On the return trip, there are many announcements telling you to disembark at Oakland's Jack London Square station and catch the bus going to downtown SF.

I like taking the train, but it is NEVER on time. On the trips to Los Angeles, I usually end up waiting 1-3 hours for the train. Since it originates in Seattle, there are plenty of opportunities for a delay. I've only gone as far as LA, so I'm not 100% sure, but I think if you want to continue on to Anaheim, you need to transfer on to a different train in LA.

Amtrak sold their tracks so SP. and if southern pacific wants to use the tracks at the same time then Amtrak must stop and wait for them to pass. Thus MAJOR delays

If you want to hit DL on your trip to SF I suggest booking a quick flight on Southwest or American. It's faster and cheaper.
