How far is Cape Canaveral from the port?

The Trident Turning Basin/Trident Wharf is directly across the water from Fishlips/Grills/etc. It's a Navy sub base. That's probably where you heard it come from.

Reveille is much earlier at a military facility, typically 0630 ... by 8 the workday is WELL underway http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...803AE58A8F789A09FD12803AE58A8F789&FORM=VRDGAR

you may be hearing "morning colors" .... the flag is raised at 8 and this would happen at the CG Station which is MUCH closer ... happens at all Naval and CG facilities, and on the cutters if any are home. Two WMEC cutters call Canaveral home.

(I originally said all military, but then saw a video of rev' at West Point and they raised the flag at 0630 ...... new one on me despite 33 years of service and MANY mornings attending morning colors as cadet, OOD and CO!!!! Always good to learn something knew)

at sunset you'd hear 'retreat' when the Colors are retired for the day http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...A48E4CFC9E7BAB5EE922A48E4CFC9E7BA&FORM=VRDGAR

If it is Rev' you're hearing it must coming from someplace else. Maybe the night watchman at Fishlips alarm clock .....

I'll try to remember to tune in tomorrow and listen ...

continue to read only if you are a detail freak

"directly across from FISHLIPS" is mostly commercial port area ... the bulk loading terminal and the east edge of the container area. This is the west side of the middle basin.

On the east side of the middle basin is a pier that belongs to NOTU - Naval Ordinance Test Unit. And east of here is the east basin aka the Trident basin. NOTU is where ships with the Trident missile system come for training and testing. It is not a submarine base, no vessels are stationed here (save a couple of small security vessels similar to small CG or police vessels). NOTU is a "tenant command" of USN on Cape Canaveral AF Station. Subs often spend a week here for training/testing and this is where they can park.

OK .. I heard it - clearly morning colors .... somewhere in the distance. I still suspect CG Station as the music is typically played at the 'main flagpole' but obviously can't judge direction thru the computer!

Never mind. I realized my post was redundant after fully reading Capt_BJ's. :D

listened this morning

that was 'morning colors' no doubt about it .....

can't tell where it came from but I suspect the CG Station ... I know they played it on the PA when I was stationed there ... and I only heard ONE, not several coming from different sources (assorted entities around the port) with different time delays ..... and US ships tend to use 'pipe calls' rather than recorded bugle calls in these days.

Don't ask me questions ... I OVER answer.
