How far in advance to you book your flights??

Last year we flew out of Detroit for a family of five for $1400. Yesturday I could have booked with Spirit for $733. So I was wondering, is it sensible to book this far in advance or do you wait? I know last year when we booked, had we booked two weeks earlier we would have saved $150. We booked in July for November 30th flight.

I book when I think the prices are as low as I think they'll go. If they go lower I then call the airline and try to get a credit for the difference. Southwest is great for this so they usually get my business. Jetblue won't honour this at all so I usually won't fly them.

I book whenever Westjet put them on sale. I booked our July trip right before Chistmas for a family of 4 for $2250 from Calgary to MCO.

we go April/may this year and I have not booked the flights yet one way is down to 82 dollars the return is still 120 so I am waiting still as I have gotten cheaper then 82!

You can play the "fare watching" game until it's an obsession. I tend to be like this. I'm "analyzing" fare trends for our trip at Christmas even though only one of our airlines has actually published fares this far out.

I should probably do what a poster suggested on another thread a few months ago. Start looking six months out. If you see a fare that you think is a good price, grab it. Then forget it until it's time to go. Never look back.
