We would like to reserve a 2 BR villa in March 2004 at Disney Yacht & Beach Club ideally. BIf not, then our back ups are WL and Boardwalk (which is our home resort). Can I get some advice on how far in advance this reservation needs to be made at non-home resort AND our home resort? Any chance of getting a reservation in your non-home resort? How quickly do they fill up?

You didn't mention the time of year you are planning to go, that does make a difference especially if it's over one of the school breaks. I'd book my home resort and then at the 7 month window switch. Good luck!

Not sure what you're asking- You do know any home resort reservation can be made at 11 months from check out date and non home resort can be made 7 months from check out? So considering March is a peak season, I would make your reservation at BWV at 11 months (in April 03) and try to change it at the 7 month window to BCV (in August 03). Even if it fills up, you can ask to be on the wait list.

You must be new or you have never read your book.
The member book is your bible when it comes to dvc.
:(

I am not new and have read my book. I know the earliest you can make the reservation. My question was around how late can you wait? Will I have a chance at a 2 BR villa at Beach Club if not my home resort?

On january 8 I booked a 2 BR non-smoking requested for April 5-11th of this year so thats about 4 months out. This was for the beach club though BWV still had rooms also.
I don't suggest you wait until four months before your vacation to try to book a room you might not get what you want. But it is possable.

There's no magic # of how long you can wait- too many variables! A guide may tell you that most members book 5-7 months in advance, but based on info from this board, I'd say there's a large contingency that uses the 11 month window. BCV may be available on shorter notice now because it is new and more inventory may have been declared then member demand at the moment. This will change within a year or so. If you don't have to borrow points, why wouldn't you make an 11 month ressie at BWV, then at 7 months switch it to BCV as suggested above? There are no guarantees so you should asssume the earlier the better in making any reservations. BCV is too new to predict its availability once sold out- but I would think it would be as difficult as BWV if not more, one because of the pool, two because it is new and many may want to try it out.

The magic sounds like to book at your home resort at 11 months out, then switch at 7 months. Guess if everyone did this it would be hard to book at any resort other than your home resort.

I have a question about switching and waitlisting. Say you book your home resort at 11 months, but want to change resorts at the 7 month window.

Do you book the original and then book the switch with more points, if you can, and then cancel the original. Or do MS let you know if your switch is available and let you cancel first and then book? And what if you have to waitlist, can you hold on to your original reservation until all the new resort nights come through, or do you have to gamble on that one? Whew!!!

I be interested to know, just in case!!

Gary- just suggesting that the best way to get a reservation request is to reserve it asap- I think that applies just about anywhere. Of course everyone doesn't reserve ahead and in many cases you get lucky calling 3-4 months ahead, but in high season it seems to be warranted.
Becky- changing your reservation is easy if it is available at the 7 month window- just explain to MS what you want to do and they will do the cancelling and the rebooking for you. The problem comes if any or all your days are not available. You have to decide if you want to split your reservation between resorts and hope it comes through or wait list for the complete block of time and see what happens. You could hold the reservations if you have enough points.

We will be staying in a 2 bedroom Standard View at BWV for our mid- Nov. 2003 trip. I called day by day and one of the days I didn't call until about 9:08 and she told me I was lucky 'cuz I got the last one!
