How far in advance can you reserve a room?

How far in advance will Disney accept a reservation? And, once it is made, can any room discounts be applied when available at a later date? Thanks!

Room-only reservations can be made 500 days in advance. Yes - when a discount is released, you can have it applied to your existing reservation (provided it's available at your resort on your dates).

Packages are usually released in August for the upcoming year. And again, when a package discount is released, you can call and try to have it applied to your existing package reservation.

If you make a room-only reservation now, then want to switch to a package later on, you'll have to cancel the room only (with the deposit going back to your credit card) and make a new package reservation (with a new $200 deposit due).

HI
I am trying to get quotes and book a package for 2009 and I thought Disney was going to be taking these ressies after Dec 31st, and now the website says that it is not.

Anyone know when they will start these bookings?
Thanks, Dana

You won't be able to book 2009 packages until approx. August 2008. You can book room-only reservations now for up until May 15, 2009 (500 days in advance).

Thanks Rhonda! I guess that just gives me a little more time to save our money!

I love these boards for learning so much and getting so much info! If you do this above, do you run the risk of losing your original room? What I mean is if you let it go, could potentially another CM grab it for another person before your CM re-books it? That's what I have always been worried about in doing it that way. Perhaps my worrying is all been for naught...

You should not have to worry about losing your room. The CM would not cancel the first reservation until you were sure that you were booking a new one. Of course if you are almost through the process of booking the new one and decide to change your mind and want the original one back, there is a slim possibility that it could be gone. But most likely not.

One more thing. You actually can book 499 days in advance, not 500, but that is 499 days from your last night at disney. The days get released one day at a time. So while your arrival date may be 499 days away and a room can be booked for it, you need to wait until your departure date has been released so you can book the whole vacation at once.

Couldn't I book the arrival night and then call back daily to add the next day to the existing reservation (ie for hard to get room categories)?

Okay, how come when I try to book a reservation (room only) for January 2009 the Disney website says "Currently, Walt Disney World® Resort reservations are only available for check-in dates up to and including December 31, 2008." HELP!
"

You have to call CRO directly to book past 2008. You can book Room only up to 500 days out at the current rate. When the new rates come out (fall 2008), they'll change your rate. You can also change to a package when they release those details.
